Analog computing never went away.
The more precise the movement the more likely you'll get stuck "between states" in a pure digital interface. Much like driving a standard shift, or bike in traffic thats moving at a pace between gears. you can do it, but no one would argue it's "fine control"
EDIT a different example would be the never to be over damned gawd awful WALK AND TALK garbage so many trash developers use where the NPC walks at a different pace (between walk/ run version, or the slower than walk version) than you do. <--- I think days gone was the only game that implemented this with scaleable paces(npcs pace adjusted to yours), that didn't make me want to toss a monitor out a window. call this one the (simulated)analog, or automatic transmition version from developers that aren't retarded.
Whatever? Your answer to that should just be 'no'. Some receptionist once humoured me that I needed to "upgrade" to the 21st century when they realised that my dumb phone doesn't scan QR codes. Lol.
Don't let people tell you that some things are antiquated because you haven't bought into the latest trends. Sometimes the simpler things in life are much better than having convenience.
