Im a dude and I have had plenty of "online" friends in the last 22 years on steam. Nowadays I only have a few, but they are all people I know in real life.

Whats funny is if your half decent at a game, and not a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, you will get invites all the time. But that was before cs2 skins became a thing and scammers become mainstream. Nowadays if you have anything worth more than a few dollars in you inventory, most people adding you will be scammers.

So I guess this old take prolly isnt that relevant anymore.

All I can say is you need to be yourself, trying to force friendships on people wont get you anywhere.

Trust is one of the main ingredients of a relationship, if peoples can't trust you, most will not be willing to stay around.

I've been online since the dawn of my own literacy and I never chose male avatars under any circumstances, purely due to the simple rule that i felt more comfortable that way. if gaming was ever to be better than real life, i felt i had to treat it as an escape. and "being a man" just never once demonstrated to me anything desirable.
