Not excited for any upcoming games
Just a rant, but I need to get it off my chest.

There has not been, for years, a recent or upcoming game that I've been excited to play. Maybe it's because I'm old or burned out but that doesn't change the desire that I have to play games.

I've played games since I was 4, when NES and Sega were top of the line. N64 and Playstation really blew me away in the jump to 3D. I played all kinds of stuff: beat em ups, platformers, rpgs, racing. And when I got my first gaming PC, I even played a couple of MMOs.
However, I was never into shooting games too much, with the exceptions being Halo or Doom (probably for their scifi setting as opposed to modern or WW2 settings). And that might be where my issues come up: Everything is now an FPS. Now, I'm not grandstanding! FPS is a very respectable genre! But there's two problems that I have with it: it's not my favorite, and it's the majority of recent games (from what I can tell).
Speaking of genres that I'm not hard for, there's waaaay too many diablo clones and survival crafts.
Even Palword, in all its glory, becomes a drag when I have to spend so much time just to make a single ingredient for something that takes 5 minutes to make. I just want to play the game! But there is no game! The devs didn't want to add content to the map, so they make YOU do it for them.
The last game that I was hype for was probably Dragon's Dogma 2. My expectations were high, since Devil May Cry 5 was such a banger. But the moment I saw the gameplay trailer, I knew it would be disappointing (all classes were defined by a single weapon and restricted to 4 skills at a time. Who tf decided that? They must hate fun).
And why in 2025 are we still paying 60+ dollars on 2D, isometric action RPGs? That sucks! I want move in actual 3D, with dynamic camera views, and jump and zip around like in the good ol' days of the 2000s.

TLDR: everything is a shooter, diablo, or survival-craft clone. I'm tired of it. I'd rather jump on turtles and score blondes like the good ol' days.

True. There isnt mutch inovation, i wish we could get more games like Expedition 33 or just a good old fashion fantasy rpg like the Witcher 3 or Skyrim to sink 1000h in.

i often feel the desire to play fantasy games that do not exist, but as a horror game enjoyer im happy about silent hill f and looking forward to resident evil 9

silent hill f's success means there are more chances they'll keep making games and perhaps a silent hill 3 remake, which is a game i like a lot

Games have become math and math is rather boring in the long run.

This is why games end up creating less error and trial and instead focus on the feeling of a game.

People love the idea of two monkeys hitting each other with clubs that them want first person shooters like mechasoldiers .

For this reason every 3rd or 5th bullet is fake in first person shooters to reduce the death of the other person and give them a lucky chance. First person shooters are adding handicaps to players to prevent it to become math where you physically has no chance to win.

A common idea is armor.

Armor doesn't work like a magic shield in real life. But we have them in videogames to make it easier for you to win.

My mobkey brain simply can't take it that armor is a dodge chance. I still want to believe that my stick stand as long the branch has HP and that I somehow going to have a shield with HP on it as if it was shot by arrows.

Let alone armor has never really worked the way we want to believe as it was used to protect against friendly stabbing. In terms of protection you could get away nude except for a helmet.
Nothing has caught my attention either...I will probably jump back into ARK when I am bored with my current game...

I feel its too much of a gamble. Upwards of 40 dollah for a game that might not even run. Even if game runs initially... mid or end game might run into some gamebreaking bug or optimization issue. Forced Ray Tracing? No thanks. Its worse than exaggerated always on bloom, motion blur and whatever nonsense.

Plenty of AAA games i did not buy when released, and they are now hitting 75% off 🏆
Same, watched Gameranx for upcoming games and none interested me.
Dwarf fortress will keep you entertained untill the end of time.

I can see the appeal but its too slow for my liking. Thanks for the recommend, though.
There's probably a few indie gems out there. At least some of them still try out novel ideas.
