Justified Catfishing?
Do you think there are any situations where using someone else’s pictures online isn’t catfishing, or is it always dishonest?
If someone says it’s purely for aesthetics but never clarifies it isn’t them, does that still count as catfishing?
Does it count even if they had the person's permission? uwu

I suppose if you never intend to get anything from the other but online conversation, then it is simply a good way to stay hidden and no harm no foul...But then again, why did you even offer a picture?...
Depends what you were doing while using their pics, if its to cause harm and to trick people then id say that was a problem. If you are not and you do have permission i dont see any issues doing that and having them as your pfp :bluerune::luv:

but don't you think it would have an impact on the person they're speaking to? uwu
Shy of your spouse or kids not really, it is better just to use a generic picture. Tinder would suddenly see not everyone is a 10.
it's always not considered how without permission the person's picture you're using would be affected as will others who are assumed to be catfishers because of others knowingly or unknowingly feeding into that idea uwu
Catfishing is clear-cut. When you're impersonating somebody to deceive someone else, it's catfishing. And that's always dishonest.

You might be misleading by accident without being dishonest, but you can't accidentally catfish somebody...

I guess maybe unless someone was so clueless they didn't realize what they were doing. I don't think I'd believe anyone who claims that level of incompetence, though.

Catfishing is always justified. Why? Fake tits is catfishing. Youtube ads with the worlds greatest product is catfishing. Lying about Epstein is catfishing. /shrug

Catfishing isn't done on accident & it's dishonest by definition.
People get super upset when they find out I have flesh.

i dont think it can be considered catfishing if one is not actively gathering the romantic affections of strangers while masking.

the entire point is to wrongfully gain the affection of someone while pretending to be someone else.

what if the image is of a public figure? like a musician or actor or something? is it catfishing if i use an album cover that has a womans face on it?

no I meant more of people who are not recognisable to the majority uwu
Just use A.I. pictures; it's only justified if you are searching for paedophiles.

Why don't you have a seat over there while I tell you about To Catch a Predator? Probably because I don't know more about it than anybody else I suppose.

How exactly did they lure those people in anyway?
As long as it does not involve illegal activities like scams, solicit stuffs, groom underage people, etc., ig it's ok.

If it's for getting attention, where they don't clarify it is not them, then this might be a grey area.
Well 2 things here -

1. People should focus on the content of one's thought more than their appearance. (this is for the simps out there)

2. It is quite easy to tell when someone is pretending to be the opposite gender. I've very rarely been bamboozled when the person in question was a rude assertive yapping lady or a very feminine dude, because these come natural to them and they are not faking it.
