Friend Requests, when do you accept?
I rarely accept Friend requests now.

Steam social groups / chats got 'out there' and after seeing some of the after effects of people just being idiots against other people and basically it seemed to turn into a Forum War starting from some sad acts.
I decided I will stick to purely gaming people I game with and even then it is reduced.

So if I do not accept a friend request do not take it personal at all, I rarely talk in person or on chats anyway being difficult to communicate in real time, which may surprise people considering how much I communicate on the forums.

In person its a bit different when I get to know people it is much easier or if I just switch onto the 'auto script' part of me say if I am at the pub - its like a function within a larger computer program.

To others, on steam do you accept friend requests from totally random people or are you very selective?
What is your way of selection?
Do you make them play a thousand games to see if they are worthy?
Do you make candidates fight old school Street Fighter 2 arcade and you only accept the victor?

I don't accept any friend requests from random people on these forums, games, or any other place.

I only add people that actually want to interact with me and that we've had many interactions in the past. If people stop interacting with me for extended periods of time after being added, then I remove them.

the criteria is longer than your post, i'll just say its a secret
Depends on my interaction with the person, if I felt, I have had a good interaction, I would accept, otherwise I just ignore/remove the request.
Mostly always pretty much usually most probably.
I accept almost anyone I recognise on this account, it doesn't really matter

mostly curious if they have something to say after adding, which is usually a no — in which case I don't much get the point of a friend request but whatevs
I don't accept friend requests; multiplayer is enough of an experience for me. I wouldn't tell you about my selection criteria if I had one.

last person i added randomly tried to scam me with a gambling website.
its like opening a loot box its fun you never know if you are gonna get a ♥♥♥ pic or a scam site
I only accept requests of people I have interacted with before ... so if some rando just adds me without me knowing who it is it's a hard NO

Also if I accept and they start pestering me with random stuff within a day or 2 in chat they will be unfriended instantly

I only accept friend requests from people I know; never from any random stranger. Not just to filter out the potential weirdos, but mainly to avoid running into potential hackers, scammers, and the like. Better to be safe than take a chance with some obvious Level 0 or so con artist.

Unless they're friends, I ask people to comment just so I know why they're adding me, and kind of go based on that, but a large majority of my friends I know or have met in a game

Edit: Mistyped.

When I'm sure we are at least going to speak in chats, otherwise it's pointless to collect them on the friends list, I don't know why people do that

i usually accept and write them via chat, if i don't get a response within a few hours i usually unfriend again

if it's a person i know from the forums or so i just accept without "wanting a chat answer"
I don't really get any so that's easy :steamhappy:

But I generally accept automatically; I don't have a problem dropping people if they get weird

Somehow on Steam I've evaded the constant bot-friend-spam that follows me like a starving dog anywhere else online. It's actually part of why I quit all the typical social media
I always decline randos that I’ve never seen on the forums. I’d probably accept most people from here, but I rarely use chat anymore, so it’s kinda pointless.

I went through and cleared out a bunch of people I either never or only very rarely spoke to because I don’t like to just be on a list or just have people sitting on mine either.
