In my experience games always precisely calculate the magnitude of the damage.
I can't think of any permanent debuff. I think you just don't know what the body is capable of and what can be achieved with the right tools.
You may be thinking surely losing a limb is permanent debuff ? No. It takes 3 months in a wet medical pod to fix that. (not counting for retraining time)
For spiritual beings there are ways to uhm... navigate around ANY injury, including past ones.
