In a democracy the public can, in fact, vote on issues in such a manner. And their votes have meaningful influence and are not merely symbolic.
In an illegitimate propaganda state, voters are instead given a predetermined multiple choice list of candidates who have no obligation whatsoever to represent their constituents, then they wave some flags and pop some fireworks and yell "democracy!"
fascism means prioritizing local population? who knows maybe you have a point, perhaps that's why in the past when people were struggling hard they voted for parties like that
You don't live in a true democracy. You live in a representative democracy at most. You elect the guy and he makes the decisions on where to send money. Be more careful who you elect and remember, these people will promise things just to get elected sometimes.
And people aren't poor because of foreign aid. They're poor because of neoliberal economic policies, like giving corporations and oligarchs tax breaks, slashing social programs and allowing businesses to offshore and outsource.
They're also poor because of poor voting and other bad decisions that impact them directly. There are people out there who vote against worker protections, safety nets, breaking up monopolies because they think it's a slippery slope to Communism.
That's true, you can plug in the name of any ideology at the end of all the flag waving and fireworks and then it describes most governance systems on the planet
or giving money away to other countries in the same vein as corporations.
Neoliberal beliefs promote self-efficacy, self-esteem, and self-reliance.
What is this obsession with wanting to live on the government teet. It seems so counter-productive to the history of man kind as a whole.
