Skill based matchmaking is based upon win/loss ratios not skill because that is what a logic system is able to track.
For example:
If you are matched against opponents of equal skill then your chance of winning or losing would be 50%.
Thus the matchmaking system does it best to keep you at a 1:1 win/loss ratio because that is really the only thing it can do.
Therefore:
If you win several matches then system will match you against opponents that are stronger and you get stomped. If you lose several matches then the system will match you against opponents that are weaker than you and you will stomp them.
But at the end of the day the goal for the system is to keep you wining and losing at the 50% rate.
