The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II
For pvp most likely Starcraft should be of the best since the competitive scene was quite active.
Though for campaign i'll say Supreme Comander i do remember enjoying those 3 campaigns quite alot.
For uniqueness it would be a tie between quite a few titles like Starcraft, Suprem Comander, Rome: Total War, AoE, SpellForce...
Else the problem with any RTS is the AI - or rather the scripts which should simulate it. CoH2 had a good timing of engagements and stuff. A lot to do, very tactical, good balance. For single player i would not recommend it.
I enjoyed it the most
Which is why total war also isn´t an RTS, even if You have real times battles. But no base buildings, as that´s done in the strategic and turn based layer. Like it´s more about to have it on the same map / layer.
Clicking on people to make them chop wood, etc. Not really my thing.
I lent my copy of this and never got it back. I regret this decision.
