Court filings say Robinson admitted he had been planning the attack for a week and used his grandfather’s scoped .30-06 rifle to fire a single fatal shot from a rooftop. In the messages, Robinson apologized for dragging Twiggs into the plot, confessed outright to the killing, and worried about returning the rifle to his family.
Robinson now faces seven felony counts including aggravated murder, witness tampering, and obstruction of justice. Prosecutors and Utah Governor Spencer Cox have vowed to pursue the death penalty, possibly by firing squad, if Robinson is convicted.
Kirk, 31, was on his American Comeback Tour when he was gunned down. He leaves behind a wife and two young children. His funeral is scheduled for Sept. 21 at State Farm Stadium in Arizona, with President Trump expected to attend.
Robinson’s messages and his partner’s cooperation were key in helping investigators track and arrest the alleged shooter."
