Why does beef taste so bad nowadays?
The taste of steak has gotten worse over the last 2 decades.

Is there any reason why?

Or have my taste buds changed over the years?

What are your thoughts?

Maybe you got the Alpha Gal.
probably from the utter garbage we feed farm animals, the horrific conditions they are kept in while they are raised for slaughter, and the host of strange chemicals pumped into their bodies

I'm thinking this.

I don't eat beef much (I'm more of a vegetarian) but I tasted a slice of steak yesterday and it had no taste.

Why do people pay so much money for garbage?

many often have no choice. they get food that is cheap, they live within their means. "pure" beef raised in better conditions is often more expensive and time consuming to produce. its easier to shove a thousand cows into a crowded, disgusting pen and inject them with sterilisers and growth hormone.

don't forget the part where they pad out the weight by injecting all the cuts with water
I rarely eat beef because I never was much of a beef eater. I haven't eaten enough steak frequently enough to compare quality. I've had some of the WORST quality beef, the current standard SHOULDN'T be THAT low.
Chemicals they have to use on cows in Brazil because of the Screw Fly that leaves flesh eating maggots on the cows eating them alive.

You asked.
A good beef you have to raise them with beer, massage and fresh grass.
Its still weird to me that the US gets its beef from other countries and we export OUR beef.

Buddy is a truck driver and told me he had to haul 1 pallet of beef from Pennsylvania to Florida. He said the diesel fuel used costed more than the pallet of beef was worth.

None of it makes any economical sense to me either.
I'm just assuming companies are using more preservatives to give it longer shelf life. No one can afford it, so make sure it last's as long as possible.

Capitalism has become a nightmare.
You didn't notice you were buying certified grade z meef? Fortified with nickel and vitamin r.

It's funny that you mention this because I feel the same way. The last time I had a good steak was when I went to Harrigan's restaurant many years ago (it's closed now). I ordered a ribeye steak cooked somewhere between medium and medium rare. It was one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. It was ridiculously good.

I have tried many times to find a good steak at a couple of local grocery stores with no success. Grocery store steaks are terrible. They're cut thin, they're tuff and full of gristle, and they don't have much flavor. It doesn't matter what type/cut of steak you buy, they're awful. Even their prime cuts are not worth the ridiculous price. I'm beginning to think that grocery stores are selling me bull meat rather than cow or steer meat. I used to love beef but I don't buy it much anymore because I'm just not enjoying it.

Had it for a quite few years but it wore off and went back to eating meat once a fortnight. Since the allergy kicked in after cooking the meat, stuck to take-out to avoid it coming back. In some countries, the standards for meat production is different so taste is affected.
