If it was me I'd say I have a rule and its X amount of time before you can have another drink. or X amount of time per drink. With soda in between every now and then and crisps or some food.
Depending the country your in / local laws, always stick to them for drinking and go on side of caution. If people give you hassle say 'ultimately my job here is as a safety officer and it is me to do that job and go home with a clear or troubled conscience'.
And that is the bar persons role. Not only serving and taking money.
Even one drink is too much for me.
bar tenders where i live are usually nice about it and tell people they can have one more drink before cutting them off
