If I was going the more communist route as mayor of New York, what I would do is make public transport free within city limits. Of course you would have to have massive tax increase to pay for it, and like most things in the government, most of that money would be funneled to other projects. Doubt Mamdami would be able pull that one off however.

Is New York City salvageable?

As an outsider from a more rural region, most reports are that New York City is on the brink of collapse. A housing bubble that is due to burst, a massive market correction that is expected to destroy New York City's economy for the foreseeable future.

Tbf, most new Yorkers are indoorsy people and dont even use public transportation. (if not, the number is growing since people getting laid off)

Many of them won't be tenants for long when Mamdani's rent freeze forces landlords into foreclosure and all the tenants are evicted. In its place will go high-end condos that the current population have no hope of ever affording. I guess you can solve NYC's housing crisis by forcing those people to leave the city...

Mamdani is right that NYC has an affordability problem, he's just too dumb to realize that all his economic policies will just make those issues worse.
