Is anyone actually affected by the shutdown?
Other than news coverage spreading the panic, I wonder how many people out in the public are being affected by this shutdown. If there is literally no change then what will the return to funding do once the government reopens? Sounds like there are a lot of funded things that have no bearing on daily life and should be cut real soon.

Trying to get info on a WWII veteran family member but the stupid shutdown means the archives are close until the shutdowns are done. Infuriating.

Yes. The local church near me does food drives and there are a lot of government and military families in line. Trying to get in contact with some agencies is also a pain now as you wait on hold for way longer.

I'm not :D
Federal Employees/Military have the "TSP" (Thrift Savings Plan) 401k to invest their money for retirement.
The contractor (BlackRock) running it is paid by Federal Agencies putting 1% into the fund just to pay the contractor to manage the funds.
Without the Federal Agencies paying that 1%, the contractor starts subtracting from their retirement funds to pay itself to manage the funds.
All their retirement funds start dropping.

It's a good time to be dependent on parents and spend all day gaming
My employer gets a handful of Federal payments each month. It's why my boss required me to be "fully vaccinated" after the Biden mandate.

It looks like those payments are still coming in, so...

it's what media does, spread fear and panic

In other words, you are watching the news and not out in the public where you could actually discover the answers you seek. In other words, you don't know.
Looks like 42 million Americans won't be receiving their food stamps in November.

Several states, such as Pennsylvania, stopped handing out food stamps as of October 16.
not a single person affected, in my very poor farming town.

nothing trump has done so far, has caused a single issue in my town.

this goes for areas of my friends and family as well...

we all will continue on, doing the normal routine.

have a nice day peeps

And Tik Tok is already filled with videos of people threatening to loot and steal to get the stuff they're owed.

So, really, nothing's changed there.

How did the government increase taxes while being closed?

Local government. They increased the taxes stating the Federal Shutdown caused it but I think it is all hoopla. All I know is that the water rose 100% same with refuse, sewage. and property.
Ah! I understand now.

I did have an increase in water and sewer this year, but it was announced well before the shutdown.

Fortunately, I live out-of-town, so I don't pay local taxes. Just state and Federal. (Well, no, I do pay property taxes to the county. But those have been going up every year for the past five years.)

I can see local governments increasing taxes though.
