What I like to cry about is the fact that nobody makes really fast first person shooters (or third person) anymore... Like fast moving around the map, almost racing speeds.
And yes, in cinema and videogames the rating is absolute sh!te. Nothing new under the sun.
And you used to be able to hurt or kill yourself running into walls, it was so good... and you could push people into walls, it was so fun.
sad like 1/10.
If gaming journalists reviewed like most people- 5/10 would be average.
Cause I don't wanna get sued trying to remake something I don't have the rights too. 1/10

Anyways, for me here's how I would rate things (including games):
10/10: Absolutely mind-blowing to an impossible degree: pretty much nothing will get this rating because it implies complete perfection.
9/10: Exceptionally Good: Product is probably among one of my favourites to get this rating. Highest feasible rating for pretty much anything
8/10: Very Good / Above Average: your product has impressed me in some way or another. It has gone above and beyond what was expected of it.
7/10: Good / Average: Your product does what I expect it to do and does it well, perhaps with some minor issues that don't distract from the overall experience. Most of the time, my rating lands here.
6/10: Satisfactory: Your product has some moderate issues, but is still overall usable.
5/10: Barely Passing / Below Average: Your product is usable but with some major issues that distract from the overall experience.
4/10: Not Passing: Your product has severe issues, while almost usable it still doesn't hit the mark or requires major work to get it to a usable level.
3/10: Poor: Your product has severe issues that make it unusable, and fixing it is near impossible.
2/10: Very Poor: Your product has little to no redeeming qualities and has profound issues that make me want to actively avoid it.
1/10: Exceptionally Poor: Your product has to be among one of the worst I've ever used to get this rating. Lowest feasible rating for games.
0/10: Potential hazard: To get this rating, your product must pose a danger to me or someone else. Games basically can't get this rating - but gaming hardware (including most commonly, terrible computer PSUs that explode or set fire) can.
in dutch schools..
you get a grade from 1.0 to 10.0 for tests
(which is like the germans who grade 10 to 100 only with a decimal point)
however our final grades are only 1 to 10..
meaning that the decimal numbers gets added up and rounded.
5.5 to 6.4 gets rounded to 6 which is the lowest passing grade
4.5 to 5.4 gets rounded to 5 which is the lowest failing grade..
while to germans 59 is the highest failing grade... and 60 the lowest passing (they not round the final number)
as our highschools are split in different difficulties with preselection based how well you did at primary school as well as a elaborate iq and ability test you take just before leaving primary school at 12... you can expect most if not all students to get a passing grade.
however if your smart enough to get say an 8 on one level of difficulty.. you are likely promoted to the next difficulty level.. for it would be a waste to sit on a school thats to easy for you..
likewise if you fail many classes with 5 or less you lilkely will be dropped to an easier level..
so the VAST mayority of students will get a 6 or 7 for every class likely in equal amounts..
unless you are at the highest difficulty where higher grades are a bit more common (with 7 the most common grade in like 60% of cases.. 6 only 30% of cases and higher grades for the remaining 10%
and failing grades of 1, 2 or 3 are EXTREMELY rare much rarer than getting an 8 or 9 and even 10 on ANY difficulty level due this system.. if you fail it most commonly is with a 4 or 5... just
thus with only like 1 in 30 people getting below 6 and when they do it usually being a 5..
27 in 30 people getting a 6 or 7
and 2 in 30 people getting an 8
you can see how 7/10 is percieved as being "average"
even if technically 6/10 would be average.. that number feels "it is BARELY passable"
which is a more harsh judgement than "average"
the words we use for the numbers (in primary school teachers will add these descriptions to the numbers.. in highschool and any education after that you just get the cold hard numbers.
the words are : (the first is what the grade is called, the second what a student getting that grade is called/is considered mentally)
1 very terrible / slow
2 very terrible / stunted
3 terrible / very limited
4 very insufficient / limited
5 insufficient / below average
6 passable /moderate
7 Good / average
8 Very Good / above average
9 outstanding / gifted
10 execelent / highly gifted
so you see this fuels the mindset that 7 is average...
Last I read the "average" GPA was up to B level.
