Charcoal or Propane?
I watched an episode of King of the Hill and they say charcoal is superior. For me I don’t grill a lot to know the difference. But to all of the “veteran grillers” out there, which one is superior and why?

I generally like charcoal better. It's more of a pain to setup then propane, but it can get much hotter in the right circumstances. Can also soak some hardwood like applewood and throw it on the coals for a little bit of smoke flavoring.

Downside is once you start the coals will burn for awhile. Might not be worth it if only cooking a small amount unless the flavor is worth it to you.

Charcoal, propane give BBQ a slightly funny tastes.
Propane is heresy.

The real question is whether to supplement it with smoking pellets, chips or chunks. (NEVER soak the smoking wood. If you want to raise humidity, use a pyrex bowl of water)

Also, always use proper natural lump charcoal. Not cheap, phony briquettes.

The best grillman I've met is my best friend's father and he always used charcoal.
An absolute artist when it comes to grilling steaks and/ or fish.

Propane is cheaper to forge with, unless you make your own charcoal

I have never used propane to grill, sounds hazardous. Charcoal and wood all the way. You can even have flavored pellets now.
Charcoal or wood, or I'm not interested. Gas leaves an odd aftertaste on the meat.
Charcoal or wood from fruit trees (apple, pear). They impart aroma.

Can be, yeah.

Having a lot of fun with the propane burner torch though.

Have to go refill one of my 20# tanks tonight for the firepit.
Everybody knows the classiest way to grill your imported wagyu is over newspaper soaked in WD40
Charcoal every once in a while is superior although if you had to eat one every single day charcoal can be too much. So propane has its own flavor and its much more mild.

Charcoal / Wood etc is good for when you want to get that flavour into it.
You can do the same with gas with your own specialised spray but the solid fuel you can do a little more with it.

Gas = for easier and more consistent cooking.
Solid = For when you want to muscle it and give that real McCoy taste.

For everyday use, Gas would be the sensible option.
These guys will show how to do a barbecue right.

Charcoal is a pain in the ass.

Propane tastes like ♥♥♥♥.

The answer is clear: deep fried.
