The mark of a TRUE fan...
...is someone who knows when it's time to stop being a fan because too many other people started saying they were fans and watering it down.

The decision to quit liking something only because it becomes mainstream or more popular, makes you sound like a hipster. If you can switch your like so easily, were you even a fan to begin with?

A true fan would welcome other fans, in my opinion.
the number one mark of a true fan is probably having a couple of whirling blades which shred anything that gets caught in them. either that or possessing the ability to fold and unfold like an accordion.

I'd say the mark of a true fan is being able to enjoy something without making it your whole personality. As well as being able to accept the fact that not everyone cares about it.

A true fan only stops being a fan when the thing they're a fan of decreases in quality. Not because of what some randos do and say. The word you're looking for to describe yourself is "insecure".
Steam.exe has decreased in quality time to only play battle net games
Then you are not a true fan...You are just anti-social and you do not like to share...
I don't care if my fans are "true" or "false" or whatever else in between, they just need the right CFM to keep the loop in my case moving and prevent over- or under-pressure

I become a fan only of things that i can enjoy all by myself so I do not have this problem, other random people cannot water them down for me. If the author water it down and it damages the whole franchiseI forget about it and I am not a fan anymore, if some parts of the franchise remain enjoyable and not affected I remain a fan of thoise parts.

a true berserk fan has a brand of sacrifice somewhere on their body, it is known.

"True fans are contrarians."
