What’s the best country you traveled?
I went to US recently and made me notice that UK compared to that is a 2nd world country.

But how do you measure 'best'?

Egypt was pretty amazing to me.

I loved Turkey and it's people, now i have only visited 20 countries.
Spain, at least Sevilla was the nicest EU place i have visited.

Bahamas, I guess. I haven't done a lot of international travel, and certainly haven't escaped the tourist parts.

Czech Republic, awesome beer
Cornwall.
It’s all subjective though.
norway... it is absolutely stunning.

it speaks great english.. (in fact after dutch the best non native english speakers in the world)
which makes conversation easy..

but unlike my own country.. it has not sold out.. everybody is in norwegian.. education, goverment websites and so on.. and you can forget being invited to social events or be offered a job if not speaking norwegian I consider it HEALTHY nationalism..
***it allowed me to enjoy my stay as tourist for they remain friendly and willing to reply in english to me without having the tourist hellhole feeling..

I also notice flags on every streetcorner.. and very very little migrant problems.. I have not seen one people of colour.. and the east european migrants I saw.. were much better asimilated..
-ironicly i felt norway is both more welcoming to foreigners (where we hate on east europeans for the alcohol related problems they cause.. loud noice, littering, violence) non such hatred in norway. much easier to be accepted
thats likely due the norwegians forcing outisders to assililate.. and being much more strict in giving citycenship.. if you have a bachalor degree or higher of a type that norway needs and are under 45 yo welcome.. if you are western and have 2 kids under 18yo, welcome.. if you have 10 million krona (1 million euro) on the bank.. welcome
all others STAY AWAY.
welcome means here.. you can live there and work there.. it does not mean acces to their wellfare state nor a norwegian passport.. it can take decades of uninterupted labour in norway.. full assimilation passing native level language test.. regulair participation in norways national holidays, clubs events.. while NOT taking part in any foreign origanisations or holiday celebrations.. before even having a chance of being granted citycenship instead of just a work visa..
**this healthy pride (which is falsely framed facism here if you fly the flag on every corner and demand the language to be spoken.. thats taboo in netherlands)
paired with a much greater acceptance for those not just seeking a better life but actually desire to become norwegian... felt great.. i think it is the better model..

it helped that everybody around me was blond an blue eyed like me.. while my home city is over 70% non western migrant.. I felt finally at home.. finally everybody around me is like me.

also stuff like.. I just hiking.. people stopping offering a lift.. I was not even asking.. the nation is like that.. or when they accidently splash some gravel on you while waiting for a bus they will stop and ask if you are ok.. cars regulairly are just kept engine turning on parking lot.. bikes not locked.. and it all goes ell
I LOVE the feeling of safety and community that gave me.. we lost that innocence in my nation basicicly in the 60s when we started to allow outsiders in..

and ofcourse if you than look into migrating there...

well.. it has double our wages..sure groceries and such cost also 50% more.. but thats still more purchase power... but than you add the fact houses cost 1/3d.. and the standard of living there doing the same job really becomes much better..

and thats not all.. where we have dismantled our welfare state.. in the netherlands the norwegian one is still at peak level.. education is excelent.. and has no homwork (instead children sit at school till 17.00 so they get used to a workday from a young age)
the year paid maternity leave for woman and 3 months for fathers is great too..
I can continue but every social thing we have.. is just better in norway..

than finance.. where my nation wasted the revenue of the groninger gasfield... norway has used it to build a national wealthfund.. thus their taxes will slowly go down and wellfare up.. as that fund gets larger... while here we have the reverse trend of upgoing taxes and lowering wellfare

and last but not least.. norway is in shengen.. (so no trade barrier) but is wise enough to have stayed OUT the eu.. thus no euro.. eroding their wealth.. no mandated europpean laws.. no forced adopting migratns.. no billions to an esm to bailout fisaclly bankrupt countries....

aka norway is the model of everything my nation does and did wrong and should copy the homework from..
**with as final benifit ofcourse norway is MUCH larger than the netherlands.. yet has only 1/3d the people.. thus it has space... lots of space..
which is why houses are cheap and the nation looks stunning. as there is plenty space for nature too..

I’ll go there one day it does look amazing
Texas. I remember visiting it, back in the day, when it was its own thing.

Back then in 1836?
That's funny, because when I went to the UK it was clear to me that the US is a third-world country.

It's almost like no matter where you go, tourists only see a curated, sugar-coated picture of the country's reality...but gee I don't know why anyone would do that! :steamhappy:

The most fun I've had in another country was in Yucatan, MX. That was the one place I've been where I didn't feel like people were acting. Nothing was suspiciously pretty or clean or too-friendly, the people were simple and authentic, and it was just overall a great time experiencing another culture. Even with all the struggles they were still having with their own colonial government.

That being said, I'd have never survived out there without friends who could translate lol
