please read the entire thread before posting
heard someone say that and.. don't do that...

I found this conversation interesting, felt like sharing. maybe you'll enjoy the convo?

Please read the whole thread before participating. Not just here, in general
no. i advise against this. in all internet forums.

forums are designed, yes designed, to attract new blood to popular conversations and if you're in this conversation expect that new people will be talking about the OP and not your conversation, thus there's 2 conversations. this design allows the new posters to slowly join your conversation as it happens and as someone replies to what they just said.

no shot in hell are people going to read hundreds of posts just to understand everything that was said. not happening. best you'll get is someone reading the entire thread and replying to what they read by spamming a ton of new posts to reply to older posts one by one, which creates multiple conversations all at once.

someone wanting to join a conversation shouldn't be punished when doing so just because of the year they were born.

if you disagree. then feel free to provide a tl;dr to the person you're responding to and explain, like a person would, what they missed..

That is why posters should make a tl;dr

I feel like this logic starts getting questionable at about 20 posts and dreadful at around 150.

And what if that guy with the crusader avatar shows up? What's his name again? The one that posts like 2000 words about how whatever we're talking about is some deeper issue with society or whatever.

i mean, that's why such invention like forum moderation exists. to make a thread worth reading, by removing spam and bad actors.

have we come full circle yet?

Ofc no one gonna read a thread with 1000 of replies where 80% of them are off-topic.
People qoute others posts they find interesting to reply to. They dont read the entire thread that has changed course 40 times in 8 months and are filled with off-topic posts made by trolls.

The one I ignore?
Doesn't seem like a bad guy, I just literally don't care.

Agreed. Sometimes I read a bit of it, and sometimes I can even agree. It's just so lengthy, lol.

Exactly, someone gets it.
its a forum, its meant for short informative replies. Not a full college essay.

well, a forum or part of it can be used for essays. why not? message boards and comment sections are probably not suitable for that.
If you want your discussion to be that well-maintained, make it a private chat or email chain.
as a long poster myself.. I often find idiots who read like the first 2 lines of my post and respond to that.. (or report based on that) even while their responce is utterly nonsence if they took the time to actually read my post.

I will read complete posts even if long.. and think everybody should.

will i always read EVERY post made in a discussion thats already many pages long by the time I jump in? no that often not.

I will read the OP and the last 20 orso posts to get an assensment of where the discussion is heading + wait for a few new people posting somebody (same as you do in a convo ongoing you go sit near it.. you as what is the topic? you listen and observe... and only after enough listening (or in this case reading) you jump in with your own contribution.

from my experience, I get reading difficulty from their grammar and spells, and read very slowly, most of the times I push myself to say things.

I think its more important to put the proper topic of the thread in the title, and it should be a summary of the context provided.

as one has not demonstrated courtesy by doing that, i will not afford the courtesy of following one's instructions.

and there is no reference to any thread here, so what's the point of the post?

do you yourself read the title of a thread and reply to the thread without reading the OP?
