I need your advice!
I'm a person who can't save money. I'm constantly tempted to buy something new, even if I don't need it. But this time, there's something I need, but at the same time, I can't buy it because I don't know what it will look like in the future.

I'm a gamer, meaning I'm a fan of games, especially AAA games, which are games that require a powerful PC to play. Although my Acer Nitro 5 can handle AAA games, it's already outdated. It has a dedicated GTX 1650 4GB GDDR6 GPU, an Intel Core i5 10300H CPU with 4 cores and 8 threads, 16GB of RAM, and Windows 11. By 2021 standards, this configuration was good, but now in 2025, this standard is outdated. It's been surpassed by RTX GPUs and the latest-generation Ryzen 5 and 7 CPUs. So, I always feel like spending all my money on a gaming PC. I don't like paying the installments. I have good money at the moment, but I need to save more to get what I want. But there's also the issue of my job. My employment contract ends in November. After that, I'll be unemployed again after 1 year and 5 months of work, and I'd have to look for another job. So in this case, I couldn't spend the money on a gaming PC. At least my mom advises me not to spend all my money on it. I wouldn't use the PC just for gaming, I'd also use it for work and important things. After all, I'm 28, almost 29, and even though I have responsibilities these days, I still like to play games and will continue to play, just like my dad did. After all, I take after him. I miss Dad.

Anyway, what do you advise me to do at this point?

I have a laptop with practically the same specifications as yours. The only difference is that my laptop is a Dell G3 15 A20P with a GTX 1650 Ti. I'm holding onto it as long as possible to buy a new, better PC later when I save more money.

Huh.

If this wasn't coming from a level 0 account and it wasn't written in AI speak, there might be answers if we weren't wasting our time.

It's still more powerful than a steam deck, and it's a laptop so you don't have to go ahead and buy another laptop as your next computer. You need to figure out what your work situation is like in the future before you buy anything new. See if your employer will renew your contract, or see if you can find another job.

Also, this hardware usually doesn't hold onto its value for very long. You can wait on buying a computer and you might get the same specs.you're looking at right now cheaper. The laptop will be fine as a work machine.

I wouldn't buy any machine I couldn't afford forthright.
This isn't just something you do it's a common human trait. We all tend to want the latest goods and things we enjoy. It's often because without realizing it we worry about missing out or falling behind.

So...

If you're able to try setting aside 10% to 15% of your income. So if you earn $2,000 a month put aside $200 to $300.

The biggest challenge is not touching that money. If you keep spending money you don't have or can't really afford you'll eventually run into big trouble. You could for example ask your parents or trustable relatives to keep it for you for the time being.

I did that back in the mid 90's all the way up to the PS3 era of gaming. That includes Sega and Nintendo consoles and games in that time period as well.

I would have had a massive bankroll had I saved it instead of buying all those games.

If I could go back I would definitely not have purchased at least a 1/3 of the games I did.

Save your money. It is the smart thing to do.
