A political class that is only interested in maintaing their popularity high enough to carry them through the next electoral cycle, with no regard to any long term vision.
It doesn't matter if the popular measure of today are going to harm the economy ten years from now, just as it doesn't matter if the unpopular decisions are going to provide a huge boon in one or two decades.
And that's because in one or two decades those people might no longer be in charge - as opposed to what happened during the actual golden age of western economies.
And that's without even touching the issue of changing governments doing their best to destroy anything and everything their predecessors touched for the lolz of it.
Sadly, until we get long term vision back into politics, the situation will only worsen.
business overhead cost increase. government programs become not sustainable
lead to uncompetitive industries. then high immigration mean wages pressure downward
so less money and more costs. slow growth
now result is this
I tried telling people but like as happens in OT too many had un-researched opinions and listened to self interested big mouths.
We had best food prices in Europe best selection of everything but newspapers wanting sales as well as influenced / bought out editors and imho certain corrupt politicians making things up and voila - Brexit and 'why is everywhere now better than us?'
To which I reply 'you mean when we left a trading block where we had power of veto and a strong position on the world market, then leaving we were somehow going to become a powerhouse for the Working Class....magically?'.
Lord Alan Sugar (of whom I am a critic of) said he believes those who lied about Brexit and led people to believe in them should be put in prison.
I at least understand this sentiment of his.
I was listing some of the big causes of why people went towards Conservatives and based on your previous replies I do not think you quite understand the major shifts in employment and opportunities between the 80s and 2010 within the United Kingdom.
yes
The uk should remove all tariffs.
How do feel about Tariffs on Israel's agricultural products, would you increase Tariffs to protect Agriculture in the UK or decrease to hopefully appeal to the UK consumer ?
