Shameful for an adult to drive an old/used car?
Hi guys. I drive a pretty old Crown Vic. The car is in remarkably good condition, however, for its age.

I could afford a newer car, but I hate the idea of having car payments.

Is this shameful?

I don't think so, no, it's not shameful.
Of course not, you should drive whatever you want, and can afford.
♥♥♥♥ no, cars back then were built like 300% better and there weren't any anti-repair measures designed into them. That's from the era when you could fix most things with a socket wrench and duct tape.

Run it until it rusts apart or the engine dies, I say.

Not nearly as shameful as accepting crutches like automatic transmission and ABS, or infotainment spyware.
No.

This coming from an adult who drives a beat-up 30 year old Corolla.

If I had the money I'd be driving a 1963 Ford Thunderbird and loving it.

Shameful my ass. People should be ashamed to be making fun of any car.

You eventually learn that anything that gets you from point A to point B faster is worth having.

Not at all.
People might judge a really old car, but <10 year old used is absolutely the sweet spot for cars and still quite modern so nobody will think twice.
I like older than that too, but where I'm from cars older than 10 years tend to be covered in rust past the point of no return.

Honestly I judge people who buy brand new cars. It's pretty stupid to buy a brand new car, especially if it's the first year of a generation.

Cargo capability is more important than speed. I want a kawaii highway-legal kei truck!

Or a surplus HMMWV.

Nah. I drove a Toyota Corolla that I bought for like $800 for years.

Drive whatever you want.
I like mustangs but wouldn't own the new ones that they slapped the mustang name on it and call it a day. I want real engine sound not fake engine sounds they use in them lame electric mustangs.

Honestly cars are massive money pits and one of the biggest wealth-killers in our society.
If you aren't a car guy already, keep it that way. If you are content driving a cheap basic car then you are way better off.

My 75 year old dad is driving a 1992 Nissan. He had to do a ton of body work in the trunk (boot for uk folks).
