The Importance Of Doors In Video Games
Imagine if someone told you "I have 50 doors in my house", you would be like "WOW! you must live in a gigantic mansion!"

Now imagine if someone told you "I only have 1 door in my house", you would be like "You must live in a tiny shack in the middle of nowhere! I feel sorry for you."

Doors creates a very "Urban" environment.

You ever wondered why the early Grand Theft Auto games never had doors? They just had a highlated area and when you approach the highlated area you "teleported" inside the building. The reason the games were like this is because the developers at rockstar didn't know how to make a door at the time.

Doors also change the gameplay, you can do things such as "coordinated attacks", you and your partner can do things such "in 3 seconds we're going to charge in at the same time ", you can't really do stuff like that without doors.

The reason a lot games don't have doors because it's actually pretty difficult to implement, the video below explains why.

I'm not sure what you mean.
With the room specialization bonuses added recently to Rimworld, video game doors are more important than ever.

You can't just leave your butcher block right there in the middle of the prison anymore. You've got to move it off to a side room and hide it behind a door to get the productivity bonuses.
Now that I think about it, the door opening animations from the old Resident Evil games were such a creative way to not have a screen simply saying LOADING on it. I dunno if any other games did it first though, but still a creative choice I think. 🚪
Neat description but...

Doors usually for me go one of two ways.

They either function like a door or they just teleport you to a different location like you said.

...But most of the time if it's in an RPG usually this happens:

The Doors music has been featured in several video games, including "Need for Speed: Underground 2", "Tony Hawk's American Wasteland", and "Guitar Hero World Tour". "Riders on the Storm" (remixed by Snoop Dogg) appears in "Need for Speed: Underground 2". "Peace Frog" is in "Tony Hawk's American Wasteland". "Love Me Two Times" is in "Guitar Hero World Tour". "Break On Through (To the Other Side)" is in "Ultimate Band". The "Doors" game on Roblox also features original soundtracks.

It’s all I could be bothered to find.

Arma 2 is the first FPS with air/land/sea vehicles and doors.

Rainbow Six Lockdown is the first FPS with iron sights and doors.
Doors cause all sorts of issues.

What if I told you i had 50 doors in my garage? Would you think "wow, he must have a huge garage!" Or would you think "He must be storing them for a construction project he's working on."
I stopped playing Fallout 4 because the NPC's don't use Doors and stand outside instead near a window

I used to make big beautiful house's in the settlements and added doors in the appropriate places too

The mods to correct this behaviour never worked either
Hearing the Doom Door Opening sound everywhere is quite vexing. Like recognizing bad kerning.

Rainbow Six Vegas appears to be the first game with a cover system and doors.
