First step. Spend less time on OT, and I'm not saying that to be ironic. Actually, just spend less time on the internet in general.

Also, don't watch the news. Ignorance is bliss.

Its something you must train constantly. You need to try to see something good in everything and if possible try to enjoy everything you do. Big or small stuff, it doesnt matter.

Try to find something you're good at, or have potential to be good at, and get into it. I think that's one of the best things you can do to gain optimism.
For me it's been music and the basics of programming, but it could technically be anything.

Definitely agree. If there is something you can do nothing about, why waste energy on it?

In other words, Apathy is your friend.

Its part of personality, its learned behaviour. Learning to have optimistic mindset and being in good mood from having an exciting hobby are two different things.

I don't necessarily agree. Once you find the path, that gives you big optimism in life. If you don't get anything done or have no accomplishments, that is a huge cause of pessimism.
I don't think you learn to have an optimistic mindset. It's something that you'll naturally receive when you have enough content in your life.

And you need to learn to find and process that content.

Failure is the best teacher.

Well, i see it this way. If you just try become optimistic by doing something that makes you feel good or happy, it just makes you complain less, but after the first few bumbs on the road happens iit immediately reveals how you are deep down.

I believe both optimism and negativity are both learned things. Be it constantly complaining/happy parents or people around you.

Also, pessimistic is not same as unhappy. Both optimistic and pessimistic people can be what they are and be happy or unhappy.

I agree that it's not the same thing but optimistic people tend to have far more reasons to be happy. And being happy in your life is one potential way to reach optimism which is why I provided this advice. I have difficulties believing that you can find optimism in your life if you don't do anything that would make you believe in yourself and your abilities in the first place.

You shouldn't change, if your friend or your significant other can't accept you as the way you are, screw them.
Yes, you may have screwed up, but we all do.
This thread sounds more like you are insecure of yourself rather than, pessimistic.
I am a pessimist myself, I always expect the things to end up in the worst way possible, when it ends up being better than expected, i'm happy and I feel blessed.

Optimism or just any change in a human being for that matter can't happen in a snap of a finger ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
We can't answer this question for you.

Deciding to "be something" is the first step to become a fake individual! You are who you are. Only challenge yourself logically, and be free about choices and how you really see the world.

Maybe you lost the friend for a good reason.

Simply you can't decide to be something. It happens over time and without your decision.

I mean, if you don't feel good inside your own skin, yes you should.

i think that forcing urself to be different than u r without good reason is metnak - it's like fish forces itself to fly like bird.. but even if fish can fly, fish can't breathe in air so it's all in vain.. :'( everybody adapts in different ways to the different environments u know.. so if u function best while being pessimist, then maybe u got ur own reasons why u r like this. maybe if u force urself, it'll even get worse man.. :s

PS: cheers... :-|
