new pc build, should i install 10 or 11, i know 11 has had some problems with the ssd's disappearing but not sure if this affects windows 10, currently using windows 10 on my current pc but i know that on my new build i can only use wifi with windows 11 as there are not windows 10 drivers.

10 is about to expire. Shouldn't even be considering it at this point. If you still have 10, update it or scrap the PC.
Intel 12th Gen and Ryzen 5xxx series and later will run much better overall on Win11; since Win10 was never updated to support modern CPU core scheduling properly.

Win10 and 11 use the same exact Drivers.

on the mb website it only has drivers for wifi for windows 11 not windows 10.

Windows 11. No specs I see of the machine there, so I suggest looking up which hardware supports it, assuming you already have it.

Windows 10 is losing support soon, unless you pay apparently.

The SSD issues are just the latest of ongoing windows related problems.

thanks for the replies, not built yet, expected specs :
9800x3d
msi b850 edge ti
9070 xt
1tb SN850X
64gb ram
thermalright cpu cooler(pretor or royal knight)
corsair rm1000x psu.

just wondered if all the problems with the ssds seem to be with windows 11 should i build it will windows 10 and then update later.

Read the link posted above. It's not an issue for normal users who buy stuff from retail stores.

windows 10 is still usable for a good few years if you can get the enterprise iot ltsc image
if you REALLY need to have wifi and you don't feel like swapping out your motherboard with a different one just so 10 works, install 11. the wifi card your mobo comes with is incompatible with 10

what's the point of shilling penguin herb when OP specifically asked which version of windows he should use?

would it be worth getting windows 10 and buying a cheap usb wifi adapter with windows 10 drivers?

if you're going that route i'd just switch the motherboard. either get one that specifies it has WiFi 6 (probably rare with B850), or get a motherboard without built-in WiFi and get a separate WiFi card, preferably in PCIe. USB adapters work but are laughably bad in comparison
out of curiosity though, can you not connect an ethernet cable to your PC at all? why go through all this trouble just for WiFi?

The wi-fi will work fine on Win10, hell I used to install an old Win7 driver for an old peripheral on Win11 just fine.

Windows 10 and 11 are built on exactly the same code and a lot of that even dates back to the early 90's, Windows is still built on the NT kernel foundation from 1993 although is on v10 now so has been tweaked over the years.

Also the modern driver model used on Win10 & 11 was introduced in XP.

Get Win11 it's fine, just grab a key online, I paid £4 for Win11 on my current PC.

Some key things Win11 is better than Win10 for are improved memory management and CPU scheduling for modern hardware, improved GPU acceleration in subsystems, security features like TPM 2.0 and secure boot, new APIs for gaming like Direct Storage and app development with WinUI 3.

Win10 will have issues with more new games as time goes on but Win11 will be still be ok with most older games as they do aim for older compatibility.

Plus Win11 has been out a while and Win12 will probably here soon and if you have Win11 you can be part of the BOOO to Win12 gang while I'm here using it saying whats up guys it's fine.

only intel's wifi 7 NICs still support windows 10 albeit with limited functionality, the others like qualcomm's (OP's motherboard has one) will only work on windows 11 and up. you could try to install the windows 11 driver in 10 but it likely won't work

When Windows 10 reaches end of life, software companies will sooner or later pull the plug from that OS. Valve is one of those.

While Windows 7 was supported by Valve/Steam for years after end of life, W8.1 was supported for less than a year.

Any software support that you get after end of life is based on generosity (or just the fact that nothing has broken things yet), not expected.

Yeah it will work fine, they use exactly the same subsystem for drivers (WDM/WDF), only thing different in Win11 is they are more fussy about driver signing requirements.
