My first M.2 drive
Hi all;
So I want to upgrade from a WD (Blue) 250GGB SSD (yeah I know; "lol WTF u doing?") to a 2TB M.2 drive,
My budget is £150 and I'm considering the Samsung 990 Evo Pro 2TB model or the Crucial P310 2TB model. (Sequential speeds are not important to me for it's use)

I'm open to ideas regarding other manufactures or controllers (recent Windows 11 updates exposed some problems with certain controllers?), but it's the storage space and TBW I would like to find a nice even ground on.

***Additional notes***

I have a Gen 4 slot free,

It will be used for gaming, in conjunction with a
Linux Mint partition...

Ideally I am looking for SLC or MLC drives for longevity however I may be over thinking things as this is my first M.2 purchase (for example the TUF MP44L is listed as SLC >cachhe< but is TLC in NAND nature)

All suggestions welcome

Western Digital WD_Black SN850X 2 TB.
This one is solid PCIe 4.0.
I have the Samsung 990 Evo pro 2tb and I will vouch for its performance.

Longevity? I means, it hasn't had any issues... Yet.

Go for it if you are out of space. Performance wise, Sata SSDs are still okay for loading games. The difference between nvme ssds and sata ssds isn't as big as the gap between hdds and any ssd.

Crucial and Samsung are probably the best brands. They'll cost a bit more, though. For casual PC users, pretty much anything above the bottom of the barrel should be fine. However, if you'll be using it for more than bulk storage, it pays to use TLC and have a DRAM cache.

Performance is not a huge issue right now, but it will eventually become more important, assuming DirectStorage becomes more popular. QLC SSDs should be avoided if you can afford better; these are budget-class, and performance can tank under some conditions. With your budget, you shouldn't need to compromise so much.

Longevity is really not an issue. Having a limited number of writes sounds very scary, but any modern SSD will outlast your PC by a decade. Focus on getting performance to an acceptable level at an acceptable price, then worry about longevity.

This one is solid PCIe 4.0.
Can confirm, I bought one of these months back and it has been working nicely (8TB though)

8!?
Lordy loo, I thought getting a second hand 3TB HDD from CEX for 20 quid was a bargain!

Well it feels like I will wait until Black Friday and see what offers are on.
Thanks all for the recommends, looks like longevity won't be a problem and I was over thinking it :)
