People with 8gb of vram or less, what kind of games do you play?
i noticed on steam hardware survey that 12+gb vram gpus are relatively rare despite the fact AAA devs increasingly lock out people with less than 8gb of vram. I also know a former ubisoft dev who basically says that management there thinsk that people will always buy latest gpus to buy their games (which is fraknly delusional).

im curious what you guys play instead usually.

i play everything , yey .8GB VRAM on the old PC .1080p med/high
in 2 games i use DLSS + NVidia Smooth motion which perfectly keeps the VRAM usage in check

interesting so none of the recent AAA releases like monster hunter wilds, black myth wukong, borderlands 4, dying light the beast or battlefield 6. do you have any opinions in particular on those games?

uhm you may have answered your own question. the tittles you specified all use Ue5.. .. which is it's own drama regardless of Vram. People often DO upgrade GPU's for new games (or they used to) but with Unreal it's no longer so cut and dried.. .. an upgrade is quite possible to perform WORSE., if it wasn't in the narrowing band AAA devs are optimizing for.

EDIT ok B6 uses frostbite, but it's also an fps. that gene is a fairly closed one, CS2 still has that on lock by over 6x. B6 is barely a rounding error in comparison.

at the moment i mainly just play The Finals which even at max settings doesn't use more then 6gb of vram (i have a 4060) but so far the only game that i have found any issue with on a 8gb card was RUST, i used to be able to max out the textures back like 8 or so months ago when i mained that game for a while, now i have to set the textures to one below max which does make the game look worse btu not enough to really care all that much.

8GB VRAM is not sufficient for ultra but high/med is fine

I'm sorry that you became a victim of 8 GB. It's said without banter, it's just not the best option.

currently RTX 5060ti 16GB and RX 9060XT 16GB are great options . RTX 5050 and RX 6600 - good budget options

i dont find these games appealing. The only UE5 game that i find interesting atm is MGS delta but i m not buying it for at least 2-3 years cuz its price is ridiculous. Most games run fine on 1080p on 4gb vram. If you play in ultra gfx or 4k resolution you may need 8gb vram or more but i find 1080p just fine.

And since both AMD+Nvidia have flushed the market with another wave of 300 bucks 8GB cards, that's not gonna change now. People are buying those cards. Check bestsellers at Amazon (every country available), Bestbuy, Newegg etc. They're also clearly built in popular and "affordable" pre-built PCs. The 5060 is gonna be a Top 5 Steam survey card anyway in a year or so. If history repeats, 8GB are gonna be "dead" by about the time the PS6 reigns.
3060 good card
i bought a new PC just for Suicide Squad lol .Now i ve found a way to play it smoothly on the older pc lol
