AMD ends drivers updates for RDNA1+2 / RX 5000+6000
Save 5% on a 20% less performant and 50-70% less lifetime product strikes again.
Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 Pro, Steam Deck and the brand new Xbox Ally using Ryzen Z2 that just came out is based on RDNA2 btw
Maybe on Linux it won't be that bad due to the open driver but still not a good thing there either. Seriously ♥♥♥♥ AMD for this we don't need to normalize more forced obsolescence, how should someone with a i7 7700K and RX 6800 for example feel about this.
With all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about GPUs, tech has really gotten so good there has never been less reason to upgrade constantly, RDNA 2 is more than fast enough to play anything and will be for years to come, ofc AMD would put an end to that. Core 2 is still perfectly fine for office work, ofc Microsoft would put an end to that, this is what they have to resort to because everything now is overpriced barely any if at all convincing features to upgrade for. Even Pascal ending support sucks, I think they really should've at least gave it another year, at least let it go out alongside Windows 10, well W10 should be getting way more than just a year too..

so no more fine wine...
guess they are learning from nGreedia

nGreedia still offer driver support for their older GPU's such as Turing. Stop spouting BS.

Still feels wrong to call Turing old, its really not and way more than good still, Pascal should've stayed for longer too.
I love how AMD can make the worst decision they have in a long time and somehow a good amount of peoples first thoughts are about how they can turn AMD shooting themselves in the foot be about nvidia.
NVIDIA isn't cutting off GTX series support until Oct 2026 to coincide with the official consumer cut off for Win10
im in lovely with my R7 5700X and 4080 ti :ToolsOfDestruction::cwalker:

Driver support will still roll out, just not game optimisations.
Still, glad I didn't get the 5700xt a couple weeks ago. I actually thought it was getting a bit old and support might dry up. But base drivers will be more than fine for most cases. Just maybe require a bit more tweaking by the user.

Hi Jensen!
How many leather jackets do you have now?
Rather ♥♥♥♥ move. They are all same greedy bunch.
the drivers were done being optimized when after the next series of gpus were released

no real point in rolling the driver with later gen gpus

else, why doesnt my rage pro doesnt have driver updates for win 11?
it's not the end of the world, day 1 support for games as well as bug fixes and security patches still happen on windows but no new features for some reason. it's still scummy to provide full support for the GPUs for only 2-3 years before effectively putting them on long term support as if they're legacy

GTX 16 will still keep on being supported for possibly even longer as it uses the exact same architecture as the 20 series just minus the RTX features
900 and 10 series will lose support around this month

But honestly AMD dropping RDNA 2 so early is actually insane and just makes me concerned about recommending any AMD GPU if the driver support is that poor
They did the same thing to TeraScale 3. Stunk then and stinks now.
They are not ending driver updates. These cards will only no longer receive game-specific optimizations, they will continue to receive bug fixes.

gtx 1660 is really rtx 2000 without the rtx
but its drivers are already done too, so it doesnt make a difference

you can still download the old 'legacy' drivers for older gpus
windows might even roll them with its later updates

Yeah the 16 series is a striped down Turing so it will likely continue support longer. However, also Nvidia is still supporting Pascal until 2028 for stability & security updates; even though they stopped providing optimization "Game Ready" updates earlier this year in Feb. Because obviously 10-series cards are now below the minimum specification for the AAA games which Nvidia is providing "Game Ready" optimizations for.

I'm sure all these people clamoring that Nvidia is dropping support for their 10 year old GPU for current generation AAA games driver optimizations are also super hott & bothered that these new games aren't being released on their Xbox One X or their PlayStation 4...

I can't believe AMD doesn't provide me with Windows 11 driver support for my ATI Rage 128 and Nvidia doesn't give me drivers for my Riva TNT2!!!
