Is my VRAM going bad?

If you look at the box with the candle on it, the texture is corrupted (squares of different colors).
There were multiple boxes in the room with the same texture and all of them were corrupted.

The same thing also happened in Monster Hunter: Rise, a monster had the same corruption.

This happens only once in weeks, so I'm not sure what's the issue.

I have a Sapphire RX 580 Nitro +, and in a badly ventilated case it always ran at 75°C at max load, but lately it runs at 80°C, so I wonder if maybe the VRAM overheats. I have the card for about 6 years now and it never happened until now.
Looks like I'm going to buy a new case and repaste the card as well.

I already reinstalled the GPU drivers and also used a cleaning utility, but it did not help.

probably not. alot of games will do this to textures if you don't have enough vram. and monster hunter worlds is one of them. turn the texture quality down one notch and it should look better.

hogwarts legacy is also notorious for this too.

If your Vram went bad you would see artifacts, pieces like long triangle of different colors through your screen changing position as you move, this is just a glitch in the game

I see. I'm definitely running out of VRAM because I use the HD texture pack and i play at 1440p and I only have 4GB of VRAM, sometimes I see textures get blurry because of it, but overall the game looks better so I kept it on. It's strange because it never happened to me before. Maybe it's Monster Hunter related.

But I had the same problem in MH: Rise (about 4 weeks ago) and according to the game I'm not over the VRAM limit.

Also lately all of my games were crashing. They just freeze and close to desktop without error. At first I thought it was my RAM OC being unstable (i used this OC for 6 years), so I increased RAM voltage and it seemed I fixed it, but I got the same crash today weeks later and now I'm paranoid. Yeah maybe the crash wasn't related to my initial problem, could have been a game glitch.

Usually when vram goes bad - and I have some experience with it when Ampere and Ada released - you see artifacts on your screen.

So far I have replaced a bunch of 3060ti and 4060ti 16gb model from pny to zotac. Because back then I thought a cheap aib model for a low-end sku is enough for my sff. Since I'd be under volting it to ensure it runs cool. Boy have I come to regret that sentiment. I won't touch anything that isn't msi or asus again.

75c is warm, but still ok

if its game specific ask in the games forum

One corrupted texture in one game is not usually an issue.

When VRAM is going you will almost always get these things to happen:

1. System instability, freezing, black screens

2. Uneven streaking / fuzz manifesting as lines (because of how draw methods work). This usually does not follow any borders of an object in a game and will appear with or without the game being open

3. Repeated game crashing for other games including the one you are playing

4. System exception linked to either memory or GPU

5. Hardware acceleration causing crashing**

^ To add to complexity of that, an overclock or board incompatibility can cause that too. Sometimes it can be caused by the RAM stick, which can be easily checked if you swap RAM A & B.

**For (5) hardware acceleration itself can cause issues on some systems. You can try disabling Steam's hardware acceleration and seeing if the issue resolves. If you run Discord, Chrome, or any other "Chromium-like" application either close or disable hardware acceleration and see if the issue resolves.
