AMD 7950X upgrading
So I have a 7950X on a ASUS 670E Crosshair Hero. I'm thinking about going with the 9800X3D or the 9900X3D. This PC is only used for gaming and Youtube. I have another for video editing, nature pics that I take.

I've read all the reviews and watched videos. But I like hearing from my fellow gamers as well. What are your thoughts on each of those CPU's. I run a 2K 49" Odyssey Ultrawide curved and a XFX 7900XTX running things.

Any help is appreciated. Oh, mainly playing BF6.

9900X3D is actually weaker then 9800X3D in most games and in rest of them same performance. Makes really no sense getting it for gaming.

That's what I've been reading but I always like asking real life daily users.
rumple has the right of it

when compared side by side the two were too similar to make a difference

one would out perform the other in some games and vice versa

the 9900 was slightly better overall for the multitasking and "work" related tasks

but for the price difference,

the 9800x3d is the clear winner
If you only game, get the 9800X3D.
Just gaming on this rig. I have another rig that's I use for video editing and what not.

Thanks for the input. I knew what I was going for. But as I said, fellow gamer's know what's up.

while there ARE few games that are SLIGHLY faster on 9900x3d than 9800x3d.
the vast mayority of titles are faster on the 9800x3d and when they are they are with a wider gap

the 9800x3d has 8 cores each with 3d memory.
the 9900x3d has 2x6cores with only 1 set of 6 with 3d memory.

(which is difference from the 7900x3d where all 12 cores had x3d memory... not just half of them.

the 7900x3d was truelly two 7600x3d on one chio
while the 9900x3d basicly is one 96003xd + one 9600X (non 3d)

thus the performance gap between the 9900x3d and 9800x3d is larger than between the 7900x3d and 7800x3d

only very very few games that benefit from more than 8 cores does the 9900x3d performs SLIGHLY better..

I would pick 12% better performane in 95% of game titltes... over 2% better game performance in 5% of game titles.
Either 9800x3D, or if you wan workstation use too, 9950x3D. Skip the 9900x/x3D.

If you game only, get the 9800X3D. If you game and need workstation performance, get the 9950X3D. Unlike the 7000 series, the 9950X3D does not suffer any gaming performance penalties vs the 9800X3D.
there are no games out there that require more than 8cores
just get 9800x3d

or even better get a 7800X3D and upgrade your gpu to 4090/5090

The 7950x really isn't working out?

It's fine but I'm in my 50's and I'm a tech junkie so I spend money on things I really don't need. I'm playing BF6 and seeing around 115-155 FPS on my rig. I want more which I know the 9800X3D will only give me maybe 15-25 more FPS. I'm hoping AMD drops another high-end card early next year. Not easy keeping high FPS on a 49" Ulrtra-wide curved monitor. Yes, I can drop some things in setting but I won't. So I bought the 9800X3D and should be here Thursday.

Any of you play BF6 and want a good team player who can still destroy add me.........EA app.......AOD_SkullJelly.

Thanks for the input.

I hear ya and I won't use Nvidia anymore. When they screwed over EVGA which is all I've used since their birth I said nope. I mean everything EVGA and my first board from them was the 680i SLI which I still have and it runs just fine.
If only gaming the 9800x3d is the choice.

That's all I'm doing on this rig.

Thanks, have a good one.
