Thermal throttling issue on Pop! OS
Ok, not sure if it’s a problem with the os or if it’s just my hardware but that’s why I’m here. Recently, there has been a power outage in my area and only after that outage, I have experienced some major thermal throttling issues.

On just the title screen alone, Hotline Miami made my CPU temps shoot up to 90 C. Not in an actual gameplay segment, on the title screen. I have a suspicion that the outage has something to do with this and even more problems. My 144Hz monitor is only doing 60Hz even on the settings page built into the actual monitor. Someone on Reddit suggested I replace my thermal paste (probably correct because I got my computer Christmas 2021 and never repasted), but what are y’all’s thoughts?

if any os or program can load the cpu enough to thermal throttle, it needs a better cpu cooler

what mobo, cpu and cpu cooler combo is causing problems?
It’s usually recommended to change thermal paste at least once in 2 years and clean PC from dust & all other garbage that happened to get inside.

90C is very close to critical temperature, you might also check if coolers are working properly.

Thank you for letting me know. I’ll definitely get to it when I have the chance.

Thanks, I’ll take that into consideration when I have the budget.

Mobo appears to be one of those mid-tier asus rog ones. Processor is AMD R7-3700X. Cooler appears to be just a standard fan cooler.
i use ceramic paste. if ceramic tiles is good for the space shuttle. i think my ceramic paste will too.

the ceramic tiles reflect heat

thermal paste should conduct heat
its been 4 years...repaste CPU and go from there
i dont pile on a thick paste. small film only

Just repasted and now my temps are a lot better. Closer to 82 C during gameplay rather than 90 C on the main menu. I'm sure that's decent, but please if it's not let me know. Thanks!
i havent upgraded from stock coolers since thermal paste guards come out. i put a ridiculous amount of thermal paste and it makes me feel better
