Hundreds of businesses beg Microsoft not to kill off free Windows 10 updates

https://www.techradar.com/pro/hundreds-of-businesses-beg-microsoft-not-to-kill-off-free-windows-10-updates

https://pirg.org/media-center/release-hundreds-of-organizations-elected-officials-and-businesses-call-on-microsoft-to-delay-the-end-of-10/

Will it have any effect? I really hope it does, it will be a big mistake for Microsoft to just end support for Windows 10

Why not? It's 10 years old.

We don't really need anymore Win10 updates. If businesses are doing it all correctly all they do is pay for the servers to have updates not each client pc

Windows 10 still working fine on the current hardware. Unlike Windows 7 which was left behind with directx 12.

Not to mention that newest changes made by MS in the Windows 11 are just outright bad.
More forced ads, more forced soft, even less control over OS.

Which is exactly what they want and why they're doing it.

If they want to burn down their own platform, I think people should just let them do it, because it only means that it'll get replaced.
Business gets updates until Jan 2028 but they have to pay for that extension
I doubt directx has anything to do with it! … same kinda happened with xp. It’s not easy to upgrade from so people/businesses don’t. I saw a fire safety guy ‘fire up’ a windows 98 laptop not long ago because the fire panel in a building still needed ‘98. They know the implications but do it anyway, it leads to profit.

I see, I thought it will be only for 1 more year.
The only one Windows 10 version that extends for that long I heard about it is Windows 10 LTSC
Oct 2026 is just for consumers.
Oct 2026 is also the end of support for all NVIDIA GTX cards

Of you have or can get a Volume product key then you have e option to get updates up until Jan 2028.

If Win10 LTSC then 2032

I hate Windows 11.
But "hundreds" huh? That really doesn't sound like a lot lol

Gotta love how "International E-Waste Day" and the end of Windows 10 support is on the same exact day.
Pretty cheeky.
Typical mob boss behavior from MS. Straight up blackmail.

The only ones who care are a few select Americans. Rest of the world is moving to Linux. Microsoft can go jump off a bridge. Run by a bunch of LGBTQ nut jobs just like Disney. I'm surprised the Windows logo hasn't been tuned into a rainbow flag.

If you rely on AI to write code for you. Just remember that then anyone can easily hack the systems using AI. Man made coding can have all sorts of uniqueness to it that AI can't do, replicate or understand

The question is: you have an extra year, are you going to spend that year doing something to upgrade/replace machines to install 11 or change to Linux or something? Or are we going to have the exact same conversation in October 2026?

I really do think Microsoft should just extend the dang update by a year without conditions...but people really do need to think about what to do in that year.

Also, man, the first article pissed me off: “Less than a quarter of electronic waste is recycled, so most of those computers will end up in landfills,” I'm sorry...LINUX ANYONE???

really ?
complaining about adding adverts & forced apps is bashing now ?
As a matter of fact, I still prefer Windows 10 over Linux distros.

edit
& Apple OS cannot even be installed on anything other than Apple hardware. These is no point of comparing them.
