What the lifespan of the RTX 5000 series?
I am building a new pc and just want to make a pc that will last at least 10 years. Given that gpu are getting expensive.

I was looking at the RTX 5080 card and it's like 1500 bucks, especially the one I want. Asus Tuf RTX 5080.

I plan to have to this pc built beginning of the year. Just saving up to buy the parts.

The 50 Series Super cards should be out by then.

As for the lifespan of any given card no one knows. That all depends on what types of games you play and how those games progress.

Might just buy a console. It's getting too expensive to build pc now. Wasn't so bad when I built my pc's in the past.

Well it depends of the game. If I do plan on getting Witcher 4, I want a pc to be able to handle it. Seems like a lot of newer games on pc suffer to technical issues.

Than I keep reading that people have been having issues with the 5000 series. Like it runs too hot etc.

You can build a great system for under 1k (800ish depending on what deals and comprises you want to make) that will play all the new stuff even something like Borderlands 4.

Not that much more than a console a lot more powerful and flexible.

I'm a little shakey on how well frame gen as the CENTRAL pillar will age, at least when your talking decade terms. a supporting feature? sure. .. the one feature to hang the whole series on? /shrugs I mean it's (frame gen) likely not going anywhere, but there is no guarantee. And if ever does go, or decrease in centrality. Game design will change to fit the new buzword bingo thingie..(which NVIDEA will inevitably add) .. that card effectively bricked in comparison to a previous gen(and older card) with a decent OC to brute force through, or the "next new thing" thats proprietary.

EDIT that and trend is more poorly optimized U5 in the future.. . .which the 5 series just LOVES.. ..;/ <---this was sarcasm

Honestly? I see more 4090's around in 10 years than 5090s

1k will still build a great PC. No need to break the bank for the latest and "greatest" junk these companies pump out.

I already have my list. Just waiting for the prices to come down on some of them, Black Friday is a good time to go shopping for parts. The only hurdle or ?? is the GPU. Always the GPU.

Don't plan to keep any hardware for a decade for one, budget to upgrade every couple of years/ generations, even if this means buying a lower card now and upgrading it in a couple of years time, your overall experience will be better.

Don't waste money on fancy gpu models, buy the cheapest one, you'll gain nothing from a TUF / strix etc other than spending 50% more.

As to how well a gpu will behave in a decades time, go look to the past and you'll have your answer, not very well.

You can still build a great pc for a 1000 bucks and any console you buy now will be out if date within about a year as they are all gearing up to launch new ones.

Good luck.

Nobody knows for sure, but I am skeptical as to if they will last 10 years since the performance is significantly more software-based than it used to be.
It is in nVidia's best interests to abandon the software in favor of their newer GPUs in a handful of years form now. Not IF but WHEN.

Don't get anymore than you need that 9060xt is good enough for all the most demanding games of at very least this current console gen cycle which still has 2+ years left at least.
Yea unless you have a need for a 5090 wait for the Super variants which will be available very soon

What you really need to say is what your target resolution & framerate are.

GPU needs are wildly different if you're aiming at 1080p/60-90fps or 4k/120+.
(i.e, if you don't need a 5080, don't get a 5080.)
least 10 years, Jeez just buy it if you really need it as things won't ever be future proof and cheaper
One thing to note is that while in 10 years you might still be able to run applications or play some games, you'll likely be doing this on the lowest graphical settings possible with lowest resolution possible and with really bad FPS.

Another issue is that by that time Windows ( whatever version it will be ) might not support such old hardware and you'll need to run some version of Linux or whatever else will be compatible with that hardware

Will a gpu actually last 10 years before it fails? In my experience, definitely not guaranteed that it will. There are too many things that can go wrong which will bork it.

Gpu performance:cost ratio increases each year. There will be new tech within 10 years, maybe even within 1 or 2. With the intel-nvidia merger, pc's as we know them might be a thing of the past.

So thinking 10 years out - a waste of time.

Those super variants are going to get scalped due to the AI demands and the extra 8 gigs. Not so much by actual gamers.

Wait for the supers is a good idea but if you need a new card in like a year. If you need one now its a great time to buy even the overpriced 5080 has been seen at 900 bucks... a relatively fair price vs the 5070ti at 750.

If you don't mind radeon the 9060xt 16gb is a great card at a solid price and you can always pay a bit more and just get a 5060ti 16gb... it's good enough even if its not the best value around.
