One of these days, I want to build a Raspberry Pi MAME cabinet.
x 26 Oct @ 4:02pm
I'm currently building a Ryzen 5 5500/ArcA750 (got a used GPU with warranty for a very nice deal), 16GB RAM 3200Mhz, 1TB m.2 machine for desktop/gaming for the kid. Should be more than enough. About 400/450 euros (haven't done the final maths). I bought 32GB of RAM but those are for my main computer and the 16GB from that will go to the kid's machine. Case and PSU are yet to arrive. Need a monitor too. Something 24 or 27" 1080p 100/120Hz.
Cherry on the cake, I'm planning to use Linux. Not sure yet if Bazzite, Cachy or Mint. I'm not overly used to linux but can do a few things. But since it's for the kid. maybe bazzite. Steam, proton... I know for Linux AMD would have been better but used (older) AMD cards are a bit more expensive than the ARC I got. And again, 3 year warranty on a used card is something we can't look away from.

Also have a Ryzen 2200G machine as a media centre. Might install my old 3400G in there.

I finished Death Straing on that old 3400G. Amazing CPU/GPU for the price.
X, don't use the Intel GPU with Linux.

Driver support is non existent.
Ryzen 5600/RTX3060/32GB setup here. Once upgraded from a Ryzen 3100/GTX1050Ti/16GB rig. I don't play that many super demanding games though.

Still the best advice, and I've had a few very budget parts in the past good 15 years: Don't ever let yourself be upgraded to 100, 144 or 240 fps. Even 30 and 40 frames per second are still a thing on consoles for reason, and a fully stable 60fps often the optimum. With the latter, even the PS5 Pro struggles currently in The Outer Worlds 2. UE5 games typically are no slouch. On PC, Nvidia+AMD are promoting the 1,000Hz 1,000fps screens for a reason. Nice to have, not gonna get any cheaper though -- guaranteed. Find the lowest with what you're personally comfortable with -- and stick to it. The more you fps, the more you buy.

And remember that just a decade ago, even the most expensive PCs could also struggle with a stable 60fps experience -- at least in the most demanding games out.
