Tired of apps changing mic volume in Windows.
Hey,

Every time I boot up the PC I check my mic volume in Windows to make sure it's at 100.

Today it was at 97 and I already know which game did that, it's a demo I tried out yesterday.

I'm getting really tired of apps changing the volume for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

I know there's a setting that disallows mic access to apps, but it's the whole access, not just the volume, so then apps don't behave properly when it comes to using the mic.

I know there's not much to do here, just wanted to vent.

Maybe in Windows 12 there will be a setting specifically to prevent changing the volume, one can hope.

Thanks for reading.

A game demo messed with the Mic volume? Most games don't even have tbat ability.

97? You probably mean 67.. as that not a game issue but the default. It happens all the time with Realtek and Creative. This typically happens after a driver reset or driver update

No it was 97. And I know it's that demo that messed up the setting because that's the only app I launched that isn't a usual app.

No driver was reset or updated.

I don't think it was... maybe it was just some weird keyboard combo that changed it. Never had it happen in more than 20 years of windows. Then again it's windows so expect the weirdest.

I've had it happen before in a game that used the mic, except this time it was set to 80%.

As soon as I launched the game, my friend said on Discord that he was hearing me less, and sure enough after checking the volume had been lowered.

Can't be anything else, I don't have volume shortcuts on my keyboard.

win10 and 11 sets the mic to 100 percent. meaning you have to turn it down to 70 percent. games after install. same
Yea even as far back as XP it seemed like no matter what SoundBlaster card I have had over the years or which WinOS... all my audio settings randomly get reset back to defaults without reason or explanations. It happens.

Only time I notice that happen with Realtek was after a driver reinstall or update where the enhancements get reset and all the volumes get reset to the default of 67

No biggie just make it a habit check everything like that before launching games or recording software
