gaming laptop - less VRAM more money
more money much less performance
even the mobile 5070 only has 8GB VRAM and is basically desktop 5060Ti 8GB

there I edited the title in case ppl don't want to watch that video

The most misleading is probably 5090 mobile.
A $4000+ laptop that has half of real 5090 performance.

thats the way its always been
even tho the laptop gpu has the same gpu 'core' as the desktop version
there is no way a laptop can give it 250+w and cool it enough for desktop performance

the 5070 desktop is 250w

there is no way they can be the same performance
if you actually watched the video its mostly about the amount of VRAM
a 2000-3000 dollar laptop shouldnt only have 8GB VRAM and perform much worse than a cheapo 5060TI 16GB
Nvidia. Of course it's unstable and inefficient. And uber-overpriced.

I'm killing myself telling you guys there's no such thing as "gaming laptops" it's just so they can sell their crap to peoples who don't know any better.
Laptops are NOT made for gaming, they're made to work

Who would be dumb enough to think that they can squeeze 650W power consumption card into laptop...
it's been always like that, tbh
laptops gpus are usually weaker than desktop gpus

rtx 2080 mobile card has less vram then 1080 ti

Stop buying Laptops for gaming. They never are or ever meant to be a serious machine regardless of specs on paper.

If you want power, have it run properly and cooled, actually get what you pay for, want it to last 5+ years and still keep up... build your own Desktop PC

Oh dang, that mobile GPU is worse than the RTX3070 mobile:

The new one being less powerful than the same class GPU from two generations ago is absolutely hilarious.
Yea the entire Laptop might be 120-180 watts but not the GPU alone.
pretty sure even the same laptop gpu can perform differently depending on power limit the manufacturer chose.
I remember reading a review about the difference between 3070 and 3070 Max Q during the pandemic and it seems even the same 3070 gpu can perform very differently given that the Max Q only has a lot lower power limit thus noticeably slower.

I assume its the same with the comparison between 3070 and 5070
if the 5070 has a very low power limit then of course it would be outperformed by a 3070 with a much higher power limit

so yeah it can be a lot more tricky choosing laptops just looking at the specs is just far from enough. not to mention the much less amount of VRAM compared to their desktop versions

its because laptops and gaming shouldve never went together, laptops are just horrible at gaming compared to desktops. Id suggest unless you REALLY need a laptop for gaming, just get a desktop PC with a non nvidia GPU for vram and price to perf
one would think laptup gpu's are the same chip as the desktop chip of the same name.. just undervolted..

in reality they are not.. if you look at the actual production number of the chip in these laptops the 5090M actually uses the same chip as an desktop 5070..

thus it is a clear case of selling apples for oranges.

it would be fine if they just told what it was.. aka no laptops being made with any gpu above an 5070.. as is actually the reality...

this was not always the case... the 1080M was actually just an undervolted 1080..

but that was when gpu's still used a normal amount of power and before nvidea started slacking.. by cutting back on gpu development.. using 4 generations old silica instead of the new stuff.. using the 2d or 3d grade cuts of that wafer while stealing the best ones for ai card.. and try to hide all that by overclocking that old crap... from 250w to 400w.. and slapping ai crap on top that adds another 200w.. to make it 600w

they could easely make a card with 5090 performance with just 250w.. that than in laptops would be undervolted to like 80w.. and likely loose only 40% performance..
but they don't.. more money in ai..

and laptops for other reasons have all become crappy thin.. I still desire a normal 6kg heavy -8cm thick with optical drive and 21 inch screen laptop...
but they aint making those anymore... for whatver reason
thus with those thin crap thing.. laptops that use to have upto 4.5 hours of power per battery... and upto 2 removable hot swappable batteries for 9 hours of true mobile computing... . now only have 45 minutes of power... and are basicly made totally dependent on walpower. and thats despite screen sizes also having scrunk to ridiculously and unsuallbly small.. like 17 inch was normal size with 19 and 21 medium and large for laptops... now they pish 14 inch crap.. and 17 inch is hard to still find.

with so much less battery power.. and also so much less room for heatsinks paired with gpu's that now use idiotic amounts of power.. they just cannot put the desktop models ion latops anymore.. not even undervolted ones..

so they resort to scamming selling a 5070 as a 5090M and the same with the entire lineup..

It put me right off the legion 5 the 5070 8gb as i spat out my drink. I looked at the legion 5 and the go 2 handheld and they both are around 1099-1100 in the UK and had it said 16GB i might of bought the legion 5 5070 model with the OLED.
