Don't even really know what that means. I'm more of a console noob lol. But if i can get Steam on my Xbox, or buy a Steam Console, i'd def opt for that.

I tried an Alienware Steam Machine years ago (at the time Win 10 came about) and the issue there is you couldn't play many games. There was no controller support at the time.

But now Steam has done a great job with controller support, and i think it can work.

Guess they have not learned from the last time.

I'd argue they learned quite a bit from the original Steam Machines. Hence the success of the Steam Deck...

There were two failures with the original approach to the Steam Machines. 1) Valve expected 3rd party hardware vendors to make compelling hardware options that offered good value, while none of those 3rd party vendors had any incentive to do so. 2) Valve took an "If we build it, they will come" expectation with game developers to start including native linux support in their development pipelines, which again those developers had no incentive to do so.

Valve has adjusted their perspectives on both of those failures with their development of Proton and their continued hardware design and manufacturing experiences to bring both of those failure points within their own control.

Of course they are working on SteamOS 3; that is what they are building for Steam Deck, and obviously would intend to use for Deckard.

Anyway, I don't belive they will saty with RDNA 3 iGPUs. The CPU power is already good enough.

I really hope it's true. I bought my steam deck to finally mod games but if steam makes a console that does everything my steam deck does and atleast matches a ps5 in power I'll be more than happy to fully transition to steam and never look at another console

I hope you can use Keyboard and Mouse also as alternative controls to Gamepad.

You have a fully functioning KDE Linux desktop with full mouse and keyboard support on steam deck with Steam OS already.

It’s Linux, works perfectly fine with keyboard and mouse. KBM works fine on Steam Deck; there is no reason to think it wouldn’t work on whatever SteamOS 3 thing “Fremont” might be.
