Achievements=points
i think it would be cool if once an achievement is earned in game, that it actually translated into a point system for your profile, that way all can see how many points you have, similar to the x box's "g" system. personally that would give me more of a drive to attain achievements, and more satisfaction when an achievement is earned.

We already have a points system. It's called "years of service".

I just added up my achievement points manually (one point per achievement) and discovered some games I have long forgotten.
Anyway, my score is 576 out of 3318 or (0.173598553 as calculated by the spreadsheet prog I use)
Just wondering how I compare although I admit my gaming hours are atypical.
It would be nice if such points would be calculated and put next to the steam score but I don't need it.

If doing something isn't satisfying enough without getting a score for it, then how is it you find getting a score satisfying? Wouldn't you need to be being scored on your score with a score for the score?

In short: yo dawg, your value system is screwed.

that utterly confused me man. lol. i'd at least like the number of achievements to show up somewhere. right now, unless im doing something wrong, you have to click on games, select which game, then see your achievements. im still new to pc gaming..

NO THANK YOU, Steam is unique, and does not need a point system like XBox..

so what im learning is steam isn't basically to see who's the better gamer, but to give you a sense of self fulfillment, and play with friends? (new to this.)

Too many kids these days need to spend days indoors playing games to get top spot on some leaderboard... Way it was back when us "9 years of service" guys were playing games it was about sitting around a N64 battling it out on Goldeneye while we hungout, and sometimes you won other times you didn't but that's ok because you had fun with your close friends. This new "online community" idea these days is too disconnected from reality in my opinion. I think that the years of service comparison against achievement points discussion is really about this.
