directories for updates
Hello, Valve. I have specific problem that longs for many years judging by reddit threads. Steam Client using wrong disks for updates. Im trying update 40gb of Kingdom Come Deliverance that installed on main system disk C, but the updates are downloaded to an external drive, which I don't use for games, but for the Wallaper Engine. And the problem is that the external drive sometimes turns off by itself and I can't update a whole 40 GB without problems, the distribution breaks and Steam refuses to load further, complaining about the interrupted download. the other thing is that there is enough space on the C drive, but Steam itself decides to use an external one

Please add a feature to separate directories by purpose so I can prevent my external drive from being used for updates altogether.

Its such a stupid problem that has existed for years on steam without any fix in sight.
There is no reason to need double the size of the game for updates.
Even a big update theoretically shouldnt be touching EVERY SINGLE FILE on the game to require double the space. Especially when we know an update adds new content or barely touches old files.
And the biggest reason its a load of garbage is their reasoning is 'in case the update messes up it still has the files' which makes zero sense when I am using the internet to verify it anyway.

Literally using the internet to verify the game files, the DRM, and verify the update files yet steam claims I need the entire game temporarily loaded on my files so they can triple check locally. Its not like we get updates on a flash drive.

If this was truly required it would happen when we install games but, it doesnt. We never need double the space for a regular install which is the insufferable workaround people are forced to do to play games that have an update 2gbs or larger.
With games being so bloated, this problem gets worse.
