Make it possible for Developers to tie achievements to DLC
A lot of people love hunting achievements to feel a sense of accomplishment. However in many Live Service Games additional content get added every so often that costs money and add new achievements to the base game (Example: Dead by Daylight). If there was a way to tie the new Achievements to the DLC instead of the base game people wouldn't be forced to buy new content to keep their 100% Completion of the Game.

Yes i agree, it is rather unfair, having to constantly pay for DLCs in order to 100% a game. That would be a really good solution. As many love hunting achievements, but sometimes pumping X amount into a game for 100% is unrealistic, finding a way where all are happy and content, would be an amazing addition, making gaming, achievement hunting, and the satisfaction of getting 100% so much more fun and tbh possible.

Valve doesn't control other's people projects, so request denied.

And fair? 100% a game doesn't actually matter. I wouldn't expect Valve to change the system because you think your idea of 100%ing a game is the one that matters.

I don't think developers are going to favor crippling their DLC to satisfy people who don't wanna buy it. In that context your happiness matters 100% less than everyone else wants to buy DLC and expects there to be achievements.
Developers have asked for this feature before and Valve has not granted it. Very strange.

You are not a Valve employee so you cannot deny requests. On top of that, you probably need to read OP a bit more closely.

Yeah I think the other guy missed the point completely. But interesting that Valve chose not to implement it, despite devs asking, didn’t know that.

They should instead have it like playstation where you have BASE GAME achievements and this will be the main achievement list, then a secondary achievement list for dlc expansions and DLC added post-launch of the game - you can get 100% doing the base game achievements only and the achievements tied to expansion stuff is purely additional achievements but arent required for the 100%

I kind of love PS achievement system. It would be cooler if you could get trophies for 100% and then it wouldn't matter if DLC dropped because you already got your trophy for that game.

I agree with OP, as someone who loves completing my fav games; it really is a bummer seeing the achievements constantly growing, lowering my overall progression. Having to pay again and again to make that tiggling frustration go away, is getting annoying!
Fully agreed. It’s a major problem in DBD and definitely something I don’t miss since dropping that awful game completely and removing it from my account (but I never bought even close to half the content for it anyway-I have a strong resentment towards PTW achievements involving things I have zero interest in).

Similar things happen in single-player games too, though, such as Powerwash Simulator. All of their free DLC had no achievements added-but the paid DLC? You guessed it-achievements exclusive to them were added. I find it to be a scummy business practice for all devs who do it, tbh. “Pay us more money if you want to keep your 100%-even if you have no interest in the (usually overpriced, short, and often licensed) DLC content!”

How about no?

Either that or I’ll keep the DLC(s) on my wishlist and wait until they’re going for 90% off or something.
Have my vote.
+1
There's a somewhat new API function to tell Steam which DLC is being played: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/source-sdk-2013/blob/68c8b82fdcb41b8ad5abde9fe1f0654254217b8e/src/public/steam/isteamapps.h#L112-L113

It's not even listed on the documentation website yet.

So as for whether Valve will add a way to mark each DLC as coming from a specific DLC? Maybe! Hopefully!

Sounds like the system is working as intended: driving more sales because people will chase that 100% again and again.

The current system can be seen as increasing DLC sales. How would the proposed new system increase sales? Valve is a business and the developers/publishers want money too.
It is a real downside that some players might feel achievements locked behind paid content are unfair, especially if the DLC is expensive or doesn’t add much gameplay.

I think it would be a great idea if developers would tie achievements to DLC.
It gives players more motivation to explore the new content and at the same time, it keeps things fair. Players who don’t own the DLC won’t have their 100% completion ruined, while those who do pick it up get rewarded for diving deeper into the extra content. It would definitely be a positive way to encourage engagement and give more value to DLC.

Great Find! Considering somebody said earlier that developers asked for this aswell, it could mean something is in the works!

When was that line added? Its possible they could implement something in a future steam update, perhaps beta testers will get it first
