Suggestion: Make blocking Steam users more robust.
Currently the act of blocking a Steam user remains ambiguous.

Edit: I know what blocking a user does, my questions were from the POV of someone who has never used the system before. Will they still be able to send chat messages? Can they see my profile? What community posts will each other see?.

Allow us to be able to filter what content is shared with each blocked user, including setting a default profile for all blocked users.

And yes, my main gripe is all the useless 'HOW TO JUMP' spam in every Guides section. It is time to admit that relying on the Steam community to upvote/downvote relevant content is simply not working. Steam is obviously not going to remove the awards system that encourages this behaviour, so allow users the opportunity to block users such as this guy who posts twice a week.

Regardless of useless Steam guides,
the blocking system in its current state needs work beyond just pushing one ambiguous button.

Thanks, Punka.

No, they can't send you messages. Yes they can see your profile and quote you in forum topics, but all you'll see is "message by blocked user"

Blocking is basically stating you have no interest in socializing with the user, not a means to prevent them from using social functions entirely.

Yes, I am aware.

As per Steam FAQ's, currently blocking a user will prevent them from messaging or engaging with your profile one to one. My suggestion is to make blocking less chat focussed and more community focussed so that Steam users can choose what content they do and do not wish to see, and remove all ambiguity, clarifying precisely what is and is not been blocked.

Just don't click "show message".
Customarily what block does varies wildly per website. There is no standard and it changes with the whims and the interest groups that have control over it. Few sites even bother to define it down to that degree and leave its limitations as an exercise to the user to find.
