Steam Gifter badge
I have a question.... We are given a badge for the number of games we have in our library, then we are given a badge for the number of community rewards we have given and received, but for some reason there is no badge for the games we give to others... In my opinion, such a badge should exist and improve depending on how many gifts we have sent. This would help recognize players for the games they have given. Does such a badge have the right to exist?:zagpls:

Oh, yes.. because who doesn't want an endless stream of beggars contacting them for free games?

Were you really pressured into buying games? So were they your friends or random people? Considering that your profile is hidden, they were probably your friends. And what's wrong with giving a game as a gift to your friend...:cool_seagull:

We shouldn't have to set our profiles to private or friends only to avoid beggars spam adding us for free games. We already have an issue with people begging on the forums. This doesn't need to spread to profile comments and spamming friend requests. Which is exactly what would happen.

There is no way to edit what badges are shown, even though users have been requesting it for years. So the only way to hide this badge would be to set your whole profile private or friends only.

So no this really shouldn't be a thing and to be fair i am not all that worried about Valve adding this. They know that is private info that doesn't need to be displayed to everyone.

From my own experience I can say that I have never encountered people asking me for a game. Am I doing something wrong? And to see this "gifter" badge you will need to go to the badges tab and scroll down to the badge itself

But the OP's suggestion is that the badge goes to the person giving the game and not the one receiving it. So I highly doubt it will lead to an increase in begging as it's only users looking to level up that badge that would even care about finding people to gift games to.

It paints a target on the account for beggars to choose their targets more efficiently.

Another example why private profiles should be excluded from the forums.
Just strawman arguments against a suggestion while you are not even affected by it.

Already said in your other thread that I like the idea.

For the private profile grumblers, just add an option to hide it as for the profile awards, and nobody can complain.

Heh, clout chaser suggestion. Just call it as it is instead of dancing around the "what if beggars" scenario. They love the attention to their totally sincere selfless good wills.

Why yes, certainly. I might also add a reel showcase where everyone can doom scroll, like, favorite, award, and share the testimonies and happy tears of those who accept your random act of kindness. I mean, Valve has brought Reddit awards here, might as well add TikTok reels, right? So get your camera crew ready to capture every moment of your good Samaritan performance, champ!

Valve staff don't read the forums.
