Show reviews in other languages
Please allow us to see reviews in languages other than the one we've set up for Steam.

Some games have only a few reviews and I find it rather frustrating that I can see only one out of four (f.e.) whilst a person might be perfectly capable to understand what is said in the hidden ones. Dictionaries and the internet bring us a long way :)

A tickbox or button with Hide / show other languages would be very much appreciated.

I think you can do that on the Hub of the game, in that review part

The hub review bit I dislike; also you have to choose languages one by one. The store page reviews are much easier to acces and it seems to me a small QOL change to give the option to just show all.

Somewhere along the line the games industry decided that being bilingual is a criminal offense. Possibly this is related to the unethical practice of regional price-discrimination...

Well i was thinking abut these, how abut maybe to suggest that they add a button when you are done viewing/do not have any in your language that will allow you to view reviews in other language?
When on clicking it, you get a list of languages (but only if that language has a review and did not appear earlier on the list (as in its on the list of reviews you are seeing)) so these show also if you seen all the reviews in one language (as first when you seen all the once in your language, then after you select that will join the older list, and if you get to that end you get the button again.. and so on)

If anything, I'd much rather have a tickbox where I can select the languages I want to see on the store page in a separate option window, just like the "Formatting table help" (What if I don't want to use a dictionnary, yet can speak 3 languages ?).

But I can see this idea's interest.
Would be nice to have that. In general if there are over 200 reviews and it wont display a single one for me its frustrating. If there is a german review i want to read it. My steam is still set to english so i can enjoy the english voice cast of the games.

Not to mention people could write reviews in several languages. No one thought about that when putting up these limits.

Many of us are perfactly capable of understanding more than one language. Hopefully steam/ValvE will take note of that fact and will soon allow to display those "foreign-language" reviews...besides, google translate is our (evil) friend ;-) :clementineelf:

So what's the difference between going to the Hub, opening the [Reviews] -tab and then choose the language from the dropdown menu?

i.e. http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/218620/reviews/?filterLanguage=german

Wow, thanks! I did not know of that before... :happyelf:
But even so it would be handy to have that option on the store pages of the games.

Actualkly it's more inline of keeping the store front neater. Youchoose your primary language.. But that said. A toggle switch would be advantageous. a simple SHow all languages button.

90% of reviews written by Poles is written in english so whats the point of showing me "Polish" reviews and not english? They have to add the drop down list to the Review editor so the author can actually add infromation about review langage, from that point it is going to be easy to filter them out.

probably Valve should implement language recognition as in google translate to determine language given many people don't choose correctly... :happyelf:

So I see two reviews for this one video. One positive, in English, that I can read immediately on the page, and a negative - which is hidden from me. I go to the hub, click on reviews and start going through all the languages one by one, because even though I might not know the language I still have google/bing translate and I want to know why someone thought this video wasn't good.

I go through all the languages, but there are no reviews. At all. Then I notice the "MOST HELPFUL (Week)" drop-down list. I change it to "MOST HELPFUL (Year)" and go through all of the languages again. Nothing. I then noticed it changed back to week. I guess they thought nullifying the conscious choice I made for no reason was a good idea. So again, back to the first language, change week to year. Next language, change week to year, and so on and so forth. By this point, I've spent about 10 minutes looking for a hidden review.

I got to English, I see the English positive review fine. I then get to German and see the hidden review (FINALLY). "rly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. 0h0min played"

Okay, so not only did this person not watch the video - apparently - but he also wrote his review in ENGLISH, which steam marked as German and hid from me.

I am just baffled. This experience was surreal. I had to dig out a negative review using an archaic drop-down menu search system that RESETS EVERY TIME YOU CHANGE THE LANGUAGE, and the review weren't even in a foreign language. There was no indication of what language the hidden review was in, there was no obvious way to get to it, the choice to reset the search every time you changed languages only worked against my efforts and just ended up wasting time. This system is just weird, archaic and seemingly designed to keep people away from reviews.

Who in their right mind designed this abortion of a review system? It is obtuse as all hell, it feels deliberately designed to sabotage your experience. Why would anyone at Steam think any of this was a good idea?
