There's nothing "wrong" with your idea, but there's always going to be limitations to someone else's system and the ultimate solution to always have things work the way you want is to do it yourself.
Ultimately if your data is important to you and you don't back it up, manage it, or keep it safe it's not that important. And there's no reason to expect anyone else to care about it. If you managed your data well you would just have your profile picture available to re-use. You can start doing that right now, and it will always be a good idea.
