It's all about engagement. Every so often, Valve can roll out those peak user numbers showing the community continues to get bigger every year. The more users they can keep on the site for as long as they can the better those numbers look.

When the suggestions came to extend the awards to more of the UGC, many in the community did warn of this coming. You know what Valve did? Whatever they wanted to do which is the award system we have today.

I think the points are great for buying themes, avatars etc, etc. But it's the awards we could probably do without.

I would rather the rewards system stay in place and possibly even expand it to include some additional awards.

Proudly implies I didn't just randomly click whatever option was there, which is what I did. Either way, that's irrelevant to the conversation. I think the feature should be removed from steam and steam would be better off for it.
