post without bumping
i think the ability to post on a thread without bumping the thread could be useful, especially for older threads since they tend to get locked to prevent confusion. it would allow an OP to respond to someone's question later or make a small update that would still send a notification, but without cluttering a board and maybe they could stop locking threads people find via the search function.

Yeah. This kinda winds up being in opposition to the purpose of these forums so no gonna happen.

What's the point of replying to a thread if no one is meant to see it?

This sounds like another form of harassment in the making.

I'm sure a lot of forum customs you are not familiar with sound like that to you. :OneeChanbaraORIGIN_AYA:

I've seen more things on here than you can even imagine.

if you're still subscribed to the thread you still get a notification, but it doesn't go straight to the top of the board. it could reduce necroing. maybe make it necessary even to have a paid account in order to bump in the first place.

You're telling me what it does, not the purpose behind being able to do so. What's the benefit to you to reply to a thread that won't be seen?

it could still be seen; it would still be in the catalogue; it can still be in search results.

good suggestion :D:

many similar suggestions are made due to how woefully outdated and broken these forums are.
in desperate need of modernisation.

well it's certainly not the most original idea, but the addition of

would reduce all the necro spamming i see. generally i'm on Off-topic and it's a huge problem that makes the board even more unusable than normal and the existing moderation can only be so effective. i think just that alone would help, but generally being able to keep discussion going in an older thread can be good and the current system just leads to: someone searches a topic, it's old, but they post in it anyway, maybe get a reply or two and then moderation locks the thread for being old, even though on the steam discussions intro text it specifically instructs users to use the search function to find said old thread.
