Annotations in Collections
Better Curation

Steam represents a lot more than just a launcher. In many cases, each library is an expression of our character and the time we've committed to grand worlds and great communities. As such, I wish to curate the memories and moments these games gave me, and I want to do it in the client where they belong.

I'm proposing that the functionality of collections be expanded beyond simple grouping to allow for more expressive and descriptive curation. Linked below is a rough sketch describing the functionality.

Completion and Badges

To begin with, represented in the mockup by the green circle, I would like to create a "Play Status" parameter by which games can be filtered or grouped. This way, inside or outside of collections, I can quickly call up any games I've earmarked in my library as In the Queue, In Progress, or Complete.

Beside it, I've allowed an optional space for up to 4 "Trophy Cases". I imagine these slots chiefly serving as quick access displays to the achievements you're most proud of unlocking in the game. This would be a really nice way to quickly remind yourself of hard-earned triumphs, belly laughs, stupid deaths or anything else at all.

Journaling

Accessed in this concept through the buttons beside the cover, I envision a private, but connected implementation of each game's community page.

Some games are tremendous journeys with many special moments. I want to record these in the same place my games live. I'd propose a journaling system that allows you to create textual entries that could include a single image attachment, and basic meta data like time, date, device played on.

Additionally, each game in a collection would have a gallery associated with it where all your screenshots from that title are saved by default. I would recommend support for basic annotations and metadata here as well. I believe this could easily be integrated with the community tab with an option to easily share entries to the game's "screenshots" page.

Ranking

Finally, a private ranking system. This could be based on stars as pictured or even conform to the existing Overwhelmingly Negative to Overwhelmingly Positive scale. Whatever the implementation, as the size of your library grows, these rankings would provide an efficient way to sort your content and categorize it for any number of purposes.
