Deal with the jester's reward
Seriously, I'm tired of seeing people posting the worst atrocities I've ever seen in my life just to farm points with this "reward"

Unfortunately, I don't know what to do exactly, it's wrong to simply remove this, but they could do something so that the person who commented doesn't gain any points from it, or add a thumbs down that doesn't reward the person for talking nonsense.

Don't even try to be the funny one who will reward this post with the jester, it's not funny.

The only solution is for people to ignore the post, or at least not give them with any awards.

You could try not concerning yourself with posts that aren't worth your time, or how other people choose to respond to them. I'm not sure why some people feel such a strong need to do "something" about nothing.

This kind of thing encourages toxic behavior. People say these things in a disguised way, sometimes not so blatantly, and it can be very harmful to the community. Sometimes these posts generate unnecessary repercussions, and people don't even realize that the person who posted them was just trying to farm
The correct answer is that the most common usage of the jester is to insult and all insults are against the Steam rules.

Yet another "i should be able to anonymously insult someone without them benefiting from it" suggestion...

How so?

When the community has millions of users that cover the whole spectrum of humanity, you gotta pick your battles man. People saying stupid things ain't gonna stop. People responding to them ain't gonna stop. And the Jester award is immaterial to the whole thing, it happens on forums without awards. Trollish users will farm any reaction if that's the only thing laying around.

At any rate you just made claims without substantiating them. And I'm not sure what qualifies you to make those judgments. And what happens when other people make different judgments and come to different conclusions? You know best? Pffft.

None of this behavior is new. Doesn't matter if little icons are involved or not. It's not like the problem was solved, and than Valve mucked it all up with awards.

At any rate I'll concern myself with more serious issues. Clown shaped graphics worth 200 points on a virtual knick-knack shop just doesn't do it for me. And hyperbole about toxicity and all the "people" you need to protect from participating in dumb topics rings hollow. Like you're really invested in this idea and when it gets scoffed at you have to hype it up to justify the energy you put into it. Boring. Predictable.

Well good luck. Try not to be shocked that there's limits to how much of the human condition Valve wants to mmicromanage. Maybe you should try a serious issue that actually matches up with your rhetoric.

Is that why you gave 18 of them and need to put everyone else in the same category based on your personal usage of them.

The Jester is not mentioned in the Discussion Rules and Guidelines nor Online Conduct.

As for against the Steam rules:

Insult is a personal definition not a universal one.

Secondly how many have you given after all when you created a thread about the Jester wanting to know if people had given them you would not make your profile public.

Your referring the part where you wrote.

People are naturally toxic, even when they receive no reward. Rewarding them only encourages this behavior further.

Why do I need to prove what I said? It's well-known in the community, and you said it yourself, it happens even in forums that don't have rewards. And why do I need to be "qualified" to say this? Are you qualified?

I really didn't understand what you meant by that, it has nothing to do with the topic.

I think you need to calm down, no one here is trying to change the world, this is just a topic, there is no need to try to be so deep

Well, since it's so trivial.

I used to be a firm supporter of the Jester, but I've changed my mind.

OP, you are right. People are posting absolute nonsense just to get Jesters and it really needs to stop.

Perhaps one alternative would be that people who are banned have their points blocked for the thread they were banned for?

That's a really good idea.
But from what I've seen, there's nothing in Steam's policies that talks about jester farming, so I don't think these people would be banned, right?

Better solution would be to just make the jester worth 0 points so there's no incentive to farm them since people can't resist slapping them onto bait threads.
