not gonna happen, points have monetary value.

Not to mention I imagine all the farming posts and guides would drastically increase in quantity
answer me this, do you want to get paid in steam points cause i think most game developers don't.
Use the search function and you will see all the other threads explaining why Steam points will never be used for anything with monetary value again.

So you think the employees of every storefront with a loyalty program get payed in points? Cus that's how you think this works, by the looks of it.

They willingly take a loss of profit for that.
Steam doesn't want to do that.
People also abused the system that allowed you to get small coupons with points, so they removed that ability and refuse to bring any sort of monetary value back to the points.

They make discounts on THEIR products. Steam points are Steams NOT for all the devs on the platform. If steam gave vouchers Steam would have to pay the devs or the devs accept the loss of income/payment in Steam points

Edit just noticed auto correct changed dev to devices. Guess I hadnt disabled that on tablet..

i am actually impressed someone managed to think thats what i said when i was just asking OP a rhetorical question.
In fair world it would be cute incentive, but people would abuse it like crazy so if I were Steam I would never allow to do that to save myself a pain, even if I was willing to show some goodwill to honest players.

I'd be willing to get paid in Steam points if I could buy groceries with them.

Not depicted: Stores have already pre-purchased their inventory for resale, meaning the creators of those goods already being paid.

Whereas Steam doesn't pre-purchase game copies or keys, so devs don't get paid until time of purchase.

Comparing the two is a falsehood.

It's obvious Steam doesn't need to give freebies away to retain their position at the top. So they have no need to do stunts like giving away freebies.

Actually many loyalty programs for grocery stores and whatnot aren't really even a loss, due to markup on sales. It's often just extra product that would usually go bad otherwise.

If Steam were to follow suit, they'd be buying game copies of AAA games for say $40 directly from the Devs, then reselling them for $70.

Pretty much this: they did try coupons and discounts in the past, so not bringing them back wasn't them being forgetful.

And sincerely don't see how they would made a profit out of people turning millions of points in free money.
With the current system? Impossible: people have so many points that they'd get hundreds of dollars in discounts right from the get-go.

Imho, a solution would be introducing a second currency, kinda like how Nintendo did with Platinum and Gold coins in the past, just for those discounts. People will probably complain anyway because I doubt they'd get to convert their old points, and will change their tune from "I wanna use points for discounts!" to "Valve is greedy, they don't let me use my old points for discounts!".
