Make Regional Price Difference More Clear Earlier in the Purchase
I have recently made several gift purchases for other accounts. Many times when attempting to do these, I get an alert that I'm not allowed to do so due to 'regional price difference' - this is really stupid given that you could simply do a currency conversion like any other storefront, and charge me whatever the regional price is, but it's really bad UX because you don't send me this alert until very late in the purchase process. By the time I see this screen I have already selected the game and the recipient account, I should be seeing this warning flag at least one screen before.

With Steam's regional pricing controls, you have a different price structure than the recipient. It's not simply a currency conversion. You can only pay YOUR price. Steam can't arbitrarily change YOUR price because of the reasons you are buying the game.

This I agree with it. When you are presented with users to send the gift to, it's already doing a ownership check. Why it isn't also doing a price difference check at this stage is horribly inefficient.

To expand on this, frequently the listed prices are lower in the US than in Europe because the US adds tax on top of the listed price while Europe subtracts tax from the amount the seller receives.

If you're not in the US, you can't pay US sales tax, which differs from city to city, because you don't have a US address.

Just send your friend a digital gift card.
